This won’t help if you’ve bought your music from iTunes store, but as long as I’ve used iPod, MediaMonkey has been my music player of choice.
It supports (as far as I know, didn’t check) all new iPods and nearly all other portable music players and phones, and is much lighter and simpler to use than iTunes.
Also, it has cool features like tagging from amazon (if your music has tags only partially right), organizing your files according to info from tags and even forcing iPod to use folder structure of you choice.
The last one is especially great: It means I can store my music, at least in my 2nd gen nano, in folders like
Ipod\Artist\Album\Track# - Trackname.mp3
Thus music can be easily copied even on a computer that does not have iTunes.
If you’ve read this far, you might want to give it a try:
All right, fake edit:
Ventis Media is proud to announce a major new release of MediaMonkey. The new version syncs with some of the most popular smartphones, including the iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre, and Android phones, as well as with all of the latest iPods including the iPod Nano 5G, and iPod Touch 3G. This should prove especially useful to Palm Pre and Android phone owners who are unable to sync their devices with the latest versions of iTunes.
In addition to the new sync capabilities, the new version:
- adds support for new Windows 7 features such as Aeropeek and jumplists
- automatically monitors directories for changes so that music can be automatically added to the library (in the free version!)
- includes close to 200 other minor improvements including numerous CD playback / burning fixes and compatibility with the latest version of iTunes
MediaMonkey 3.2 is available for download now in free and Gold versions at:

sounds VERY nice… does it still allow you to add the .MP4 podcasts?
I love podcasts, so I’d end up using itunes to DL podcasts and mediamonkey to add them to my library, etc… would be worth trying though.
Anyone else here like podcasts?
