Question of the Week

For those that believe porn is immoral, some questions:

Is it the making or the consuming that is immoral? Or both?
If the couple making the video are married, could that be morally excusable porn?
If the couple viewing the video are married and use the ensuing frisson to heighten their own connection, is this a moral use for porn?
What, exactly, about porn makes it sinful? Is it the fact that the actors aren’t married? That the encounter is taped? Is it the broadcast of the video that makes it a sin, or only when someone else has watched it?

I’m trying to deconstruct what exactly about porn is sinful, or is it solely an issue of fornication/pre-marital sex on the part of the actors and lust on the part of the viewers.

<------------- Thoroughly enjoys porn, especially girl on girl.

Premise:

 • Human sexuality is sacred. A human being having sex outside of marriage is wrong. A human being intentionally sexually exciting him/herself or another human being outside of marriage is wrong.

If the above premise is accepted, then it is self-evident why porn is morally wrong.

If the above premise is rejected, then it is more difficult (and perhaps impossible) to provide a really solid argument why porn should be considered morally wrong, in and of itself. If the above premise is rejected, then porn might reasonably be considered similar to alcohol: something ok for most adult people in moderation, when produced by sane volunteer adults under reasonable circumstances.
If the goal is increased satisfaction in life and love, porn is still bad.
An excellent argument why porn is foolish and self-defeating. But not clear as an argument why porn is morally wrong.
Depends on how you define wrong. If you define it as something that increases pain and suffering it’s wrong. what is your definition of wrong?

Ultimately though there is no absolute justification for any morality.

Both

Maybe if it’s not made for others.

Trick question. I don’t believe that is possible and ultimately does the opposite.

All of the above and more.

My turn.

Would you want your daughter doing the kind of porn you watch?

I’m still lost how that question means something is bad?

Depends on why, but I can’t get a real answer to that question.

For once I will support X and say I thought he did answer it

No, he just had an impressive convoluted contortionist non-answer. And then ignored the follow up.

It would be beneath her, but it isn’t “wrong”. If he wants her doing “better” it means that porn is worse than what he would want for his daughter.

If you maintain that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, you should be fine with your daughter doing it.

He tried to say it would be bad for his daughter to do it without using the word bad or wrong.
I would think it would have to be both if it is either.

Maybe. I couldn’t say right off-hand that it’s not.
If certain premises are accepted, then non-marital sex on the part of the actors and intentional incitement of non-marital sexual excitement on the part of the viewers would be the most straightforward thing.

In the case of internet porn with zillions of more-porn-links all over the place: destructive alterations in mental functioning in the viewers and an increased tendency to neglect their duties to family, rest, and health would be another thing.

There could be other moral problems: but they are either less obvious, or less obviously pertinent to morality.

Just about anybody who ever watched porn as a male over the age of twelve enjoyed it, regardless of whether or not they now think it was a good idea.

Yep, X did answer it.

But for the sake of our conversation let me be crystal clear:

I would not choose for my daughter to do porn.

If I became a barber or factory worker my mom would of said that is beneath me but not wrong to pursue. Just that I could of done better. So I see exactly what he is saying.

Why?
For the same reason I don’t want my sons to become ditch diggers, it is a physically demanding job with very little room to improve one’s situation.

So the same question to you then. What if she just liked it and did it for fun. Had a career as a doctor.

To be as blunt, you are okay with your daughter taking it up the ass on camera from a stranger for the enjoyment of guys on this thread? (not tied to any sort of need or job)

I had a follow up question that framed the scenario separated from a factory worker.

I think it’s a poor career decision. Her decision to be on camera would shut many professional doors, and if she asked me what I thought, I would share that with her.

I would say the same thing if she wanted a face tattoo.

Interesting…because %50 of the strippers I’ve met are in med school. The other %50 are in law school.

But personally, you’re okay with it. Say times have changed and it doesn’t effect her career. Lets remove all the confusion from periphery consequences.
