Was okay. I laughed, but not as hard as I laughed at the Hangover, for example. It was almost a mockery of the “bromance” genre. Seth McFarland’s jokes are pretty much the same regardless of which show/movie/whatever he’s doing.
The Hangover equals one of the better funny movies I have ever seen with friends. Lots of funny moments you can catch even if half of the room is inebriated.
I think Ted had way more “story” to it and wasn’t really so much about a Teddy Bear as it was guys who just don’t want to grow up yet.
I saw the Hangover about 20 years ago. I rented it on VHS. It was called Bachelor Party and starred Tom Hanks.
Hangover was funny because of the cast. Funny comedian actors hat were matched well…but the plot was really basic. I would put it on the level of Zoolander as far as the level of story. Funny…but if you were to really analyze it, there wasn’t much substance.
It just seemed like for Ted to work, it took more thought.
Live action is a hell of alot harder to do than cartoons as far as keeping that comedy and reality balanced.

I haven’t seen Ted yet but Hot Tub Time Machine is, for my money, the funniest movie in the last 5-10 years. Partly because it does work on that other level of growing up and thinking back on when you were younger.
The Hangover was pretty good, watching Hangover 2 was a waste, Hangover 3 (due out this May) is going to be dreadful.
Mostly Cube, but yeah some of that made me laugh.
Some of a lot of movies made me laugh…and while 21 Jumpstreet was funny…it only worked because of the massive cult following of the original tv show.
It was a REMAKE…and there is nothing original about a remake…other than that they made it a comedy…something you would pretty much have to do with the source material just to make it work today.

They’re doing a sequel.
Yeah, I saw something about that. Not sure what to think. Last I saw, it’s not going to have Cusack, which means I’m slightly less interested in it.

I’m honestly not sure how many kids in the younger end of the target audience even knew about the tv show. I was shopping in a store with my gal and her then-17 year old son shortly after it came out and we walked by Season 1 on DVD. He said something like, “How’d they made a tv show based on that movie already?” ::Cue real-life facepalm::
I’m wondering what the split of people was that went into it seeing it as a remake of the tv show vs. people who just saw it as a Tatum-Jonah Hill buddy cop comedy.
In any case, the two cameos (no spoilers) at the end had me cracking up. Definitely along the lines of what I was waiting for the whole time.

I’d like to see John Cusack return. If only because the main actors worked so well together and he was the star. Then again, the lion’s share of the laughs went to the other three (Rob Corddry in particular) but Cusack was a good straight man.
Probably end up with a different group stumbling across the hot tub.
