That said, bacon shouldn’t be part of a clean diet (whether bulk or cut). Surely, you can find better sources of fat than that.

Tell that to the people making gains or losses on the Anabolic Diet.

OP, I can’t believe you asked if it’s bad to eat bacon raw, even if it’s to gain fat. Can’t you get your fat by eating nuts like normal people?

walnuts have carbs in them, its not much, but if I keep eating them at every meal, it will be too much. I already have olive/flax with my veggies.I also like to put some heavy whipping in my protein shake, damn… thats tasty ! I forget about how the bacon here is smoked, so yeah its not really raw anymore. The tip about refregate the grease is good too, can’t wait to see my roomates reaction !
Most of the carbs in nuts is fiber, so no worries.

Couldn’t disagree more. If you’re trying to get down to 5%, sure leave the bacon at the store. Otherwise it’s fine.
Bacon is a highly processed food. Most of people - with a life that is - already get their fair share of processed junk from supps (protein bars…)

Bacon is not nearly as nutrient dense as fish, chicken, or grass-fed beef.

I am no nutritionist, but I know foods which a health-conscious (or shape-conscious for that matter) person shouldn’t make a staple. From the question of the OP, I gathered that he/she was consuming bacon frequently. It’s a bad idea IMO, and am confident most nutrition gurus in this site will agree with me. That was the mindset the post was formulated in.

The truly health-conscious or shape-conscious people know how to stay healthy and eat bacon too, or anything else for that matter. Once you figure that out you’ll be better off. The only substances in my mind completely to be avoided are artificial trans fats.

“Most” not all of them, I really like walnuts, I could eat a 1pound bag a day, however, since I jumped in the AD bandwagon, I need to watch the carbs in them, I really doubt they are carbs that you don’t count, like green veggies.

you are no nutritionist. what about the 5 strips of bacon i just consumed with my last meal. it was organic, and about as unprocessed as one can get. no nitrates or nitrites or msg BS.

i also happened to eat 4 organic free range eggs and 200g of kale, plus about 50g of orange and red peppers and some red onion. supps were 4g fish oil, 2g 80% CLA, and 1g borage oil. i guarantee that the macro and micronutrient profile is superior per kcal to the average meal posted by the figure competitor of the week on BB.com.

the stuff you are referring to is what is sold as bacon in stores round the world. real bacon is available and will not ruin your diet if incorporated with a little thought. this does not mean you can sit there and eat kilos worth to your heart’s content as your all or nothing statements suggests.

and you are right, it is not as nutrient dense, unless you count fat which anyone eating low carb will be doing to ensure they get enough. to suggest that one get their fat source solely from nuts and such is irresponsible, the correct qualifier would be: should get most of their fat intake from.

My family MD keeps asking everyone to stay away from bacon. She has a list of reasons, and I think she is right on this subject.

I actually had no idea such “versions” existed. However, I’m willing to bet my yearly budget of supps that over 99% of bacon isn’t devoid of nitrites and other crap. Hence, it is fair to treat bacon as something one stay away from - in general.

Sure. Moderation is key in anything. But chances that the OP is eating this real bacon you speak of are very very slim.

I concur.

OK THEN, bacon suck, and I’ll just eat more eggs at breakfast or shake with whiping cream to replace it… at least on the week.

Because God loves us and wants us to be happy.

I’m pretty sure she still thinks saturated fat is the devil and causes cancer. Most MD’s think this way because they don’t know better, especially family MD’s who spend their time treating the common cold instead of staying on the cusp of research.

As others have said EVERY FOOD is ok in moderation, with the exception of artificial trans fats, and when timed and planned correctly. And I guess I could add HFCS to that list as well, although it’s not as bad.

No one is ever successful in this game with the all or nothing approach. It literally fails every time.

NO. That is one of the joys of the Anabolic Diet. Just cook your bacon, and buy the most natural version you can find, and you will be ok.

In closing…

BACON!

Its called trychanosis, and its a muscle disease. While it has pretty much been eliminated by the fact that most pigs are raised indoors, you still don’t want to take a chance. My advice is to microwave the bacon.
Actually, it’s called trichinosis.

Just the thought of that gives me the willies and I will never eat pork that isn’t locally raised, humanely, if I can help it.

I eat pork every once in a while, and usually stick with tenderloin (stuff it with tons of garlic and roast it, it’s awesome!! Especially with spicy mustard and a good vodka).

So, the point of all these posts: cook the pork to the proper temperature.

Eat raw bacon and you could become a real T-Man. Yeah, when we come to visit you in the hospital (or morgue) we’ll just refer to you as Trichinosis Man.
