I train in my basement, which has a very low ceiling. I bought this thing called a FreeSpotter from here: shermworks.com. It works great, and when I’m done, I just push the barbell up to the ceiling and wrap the ropes around it. I use it for pullups in that position as well.
Thanks friends for all of your useful suggestions.
It is a beautiful rack.
Im going to bite the bullet and purchase my rack. An old gym that I used to attend to is selling theirs… so if I we can agree on a price I will get it.
I do live about 1km from the ocean. Is that going to be a problem?

Yes. If there is a tsunami, your squat rack may get wet.

Yes. If Godzilla emerges from the ocean, he will drop by and curl in your squat rack.
These old-timers lifted at Venice Beach’s outdoor lifting platform. Right next to the beach. Salty air and all.

Forgot pic.
I have all my gym equipment outside in my car port and I live in Tampa, Florida. I haven’t had any problems. Granted, I bought all my shit used from Craigslist and some of it was kind of rusty already, but it sits outside, does the job, and in 10 years, I won’t feel bad replacing it with more shit from Craigslist.

give it another coat of exterior metal paint, cover any moving parts in oil, keep it under a tarpaulin when not in use. [/quote]
Thanks caveman!
Is there a particular paint I am looking for? Is it clear in colour?
So are you suggesting oiling the joints/screws? There will be no moving parts as I am not getting a pulley system or anything.
metal paint comes in all colours (make sure it’s for exterior use), so go nuts

It is a “Force USA commercial squat rack F-CPR”. Costs about $1300. Not cheap, but I believe the rack should be the pivotal piece of equipment in your gym, and hence its worth getting a good one.
Im looking to get a second hand one for about 900-800.

Hi Bird,
Other than lots of tarps and a regular wipe down with an oily rag…
Try to identify all the parts that may hold water. For example the upstands on the rack are hollow. If water gets in, how will it get out? If necessary drill a drainage hole in the botton of each upstand. Something about 5mm should be more than adequate.

Thanks buddy.
I dont think its going to get much water in it. It will be under cover, but outside. I suppose it may get wet occasionally with strong winds and rain.
