Well, let’s see.
A pound of muscle contains no more than about a gram of carbohydrates, if that, so to gain one pound of muscle per week, one doesn’t need to consume more than about a gram of carbohydrates per week.
And lean muscle tissue contains, oh, perhaps 30 grams of fat, so we don’t need to consume more than 30 grams of fat per week to add a pound of muscle.
For protein, Tom’s figures make no sense to me because the protein content of 1 lb of muscle is not what he says at all, as muscle is not solid protein, but he says 64 g/day.
So now we have a wonderful new muscle building diet, capable of supporting a pound of muscle growth per week: all you need is 64 g protein per day, 1 g of carbs per week, and about 4 or 5 grams of fat per day.
All built on the same logic.

Internet logic FTW, it’s really irrefutable when you think about it.
Can we get a pre-2009 board or have some sort of training board to get new people on?
STOP THINKING THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH MATH GESIOTHOAISEHTRIOQWEHJRIQJEL:WFMPSOAJRR%
Already said, but will repeat since the OP obviously wasn’t thinking.
1g of protein eaten does not equal one gram of protein directly into muscle. Protein is used for a whole host of things in the body (skin, hair, enzymes, brain function, immune system, etc).
I would imagine a small percentage of consumed protein actually makes it into muscle eventually. Certainly nowhere near 100% which is the OP’s theory.
@ Bicep Craze: Orange pee?? Holy shit, never heard of that before, not even when I’m in the 350-400g range.
To add an another interesting view, my strongman coach does not “believe” in high protein intake, he thinks it’s all “salt and water anyways”. Now this is coming from a guy who just beat Germany’s strongest man in the medley event and even when deducing bodyfat, sports some 21-22" arms.
One could also quote Dave Tate, who before his transformation claimed that he ate very little protein.
Bottom line is that one apparently can gain muscle with even lower amounts of protein than the OP suggested, while the health benefits and GH-releasing effects for a cutting phase of course remain unchallenged.
BTW, I generally take in 1-1.25g per lb just to be on the safe side, plus my brand came up with a new cookies& cream flavour that I find impossible to resist.

Genetics definitely alter the parameters.
