'Protein is HIGHLY Over-Rated' some 'Fitness' Lady

I think women need 1 gram of protein per lb of bw at the very most IF they are doing real shit like squats and deadlifts, but the figure is probably closer to .75 for most days.

It’s interesting to see how people are totally ignorant of nutrition in different ways. Men often think that meat is always healthy, regardless of it being breaded and fried or covered in cheese. Women, on the other hand, totally over-estimate the potency of protein in foods. They see yogurt companies bragging about having 3 grams of protein in one of their little cups and they these girls go off thinking “Wow, if they’re bragging about 3gs then that must be a lot!”

Or the kashi “as much protein as an egg” commercials. Cause 6 grams of soy protein is just like eating eggs for breakfast. That’s a lot of protein.

If soy protein and meat protein are the same thing, then so are fiber and sugar.

Tweeting is for birds, sounds like she eats like one…

Que? Why would you want to tell her anything…? Just get on with your life.

This is pretty common among Nutritionist Sects. I like a book called “Greens for Life”, which taught me how to consume large quantities of greens per serving, but it also focuses on ONLY consuming the greens. The books focus is on disease prevention, but one would also recognize that everyone in the book is rail thin and lacking a healthy physique.

Looking for an interesting protein alternative to the usual fare, check out Cherrystone Clams, the largest of the Clam varieties. Inexpensive, in NYC about $1.25 a piece and about 8 grams per protein along with a healthy burst of Omega-3. It is almost perfect, eaten raw, and delicious.

I follow a lot of the coaches/writers that post on this site. They often spill useful information that they don’t put on their websites or that I would miss from not checking their site often enough

The exercise ‘scientists’ over here in the UK keep spouting that 0.75g per KG is enough for weight lifters >_<.

I personally cringe at the science when it comes to weight lifting, theres hardly any decent studies that say anything for definite.

I didn’t see what was so funny about the meat video. It was pretty sad actually.

A teacher on my course spouted this and swore by it. He was at least 210 on a 5ft 8 frame, really lean as well. Back as wide as a house. Got my brain ticking over after that lol.

What the fuck!

Did you listen and follow his advice? I’m going to look for some studies and see if theres any merit to it.

You know what. I think protein really is overrated! I think you still need around a gram per pound of body weight to do what we do, and maybe higher when gaining all out, but it is overrated in the emphasis we put on it. Can you imagine the changes that would have to occur for us to start buying into peri-workout FAT supplementation? But you could argue that fat is as important if not more than protein for a lean muscular physique.

it was like my entire weight lifting world came crashing down, haha!

never followed it, i just put it down to genetics… although i must say that i stopped worrying if i didnt hit x amount of protein for the day and just trained you know?

i also have a mate whos a big guy, he’s on AAS, eats 2 meals a day at around 50g of protein a day tops. Has to be genetics, doesnt it?!

I agree, protein does seem to be overrated by some (bodybuilders)… underrated by others (dieticians, doctors)

I’d rather get more than needed rather than less though

That’s also the guideline for professional athletes IIRC. It’s drawn from the protein sparing effect of high carb/ low fat diets and high fat/ low carb eating. As long as the calories from your primary source of energy are there, you get away with less.

It’s just your body adapting to the most readily available fuel source. If protein is more abundant than fat or carbs, then you’ll adapt to that as the primary source of energy and you’ll burn through more of it, faster…

Here is a good review on the subject:
