I’m 61 yrs old and have been taking 100mgs of cypionate for the last 6 yrs. I have to admit that during that time I’ve never really felt like working out. I haven’t been to the gym on a regular basis for the last 3 yrs. I’ve tried switching from IM to SQ, increasing my dose to 120 mg and a couple of other things but nothing seems to make any difference. I have been injecting 2x wk, sq for the last year.
A friend that seems knowledgeable told me I needed to switch to propionate as I’ve been on cyp too long.
I went to my MD and got a script for 20ml bottle with 5 refills. He was clueless as to the difference between the two.
I also have 3, 20ml bottles left of the cyp.
My question is did I do the right thing? I know I should have asked this prior to switching and I haven’t used the prop yet.
Using 100mg of cyp/wk has my levels in the 1000 area. I have since lowered the dose to 90mg, 45 2x/wk.
I would appreciate any input anyone could give me. Prior to taking t, I was much stronger, hit the gym 4 times/wk on avg.
I don’t think at this time going off of t is an option.
I take 10 drops of adex from a research lab and my e2 is now in the 20s and I haven’t been this weight since 1970. I’m 5’8, 180. Prior to t I was 210, able to run for an hour, bench 250 and in the best shape I had been in.
I’m 45, and have been on prop for a cpl years.
Because I have low SHBG, cpy and enth were pretty marginal.
There was a time that I thought Test just didn’t work for me.
I tripped on to prop by accident, and it’s waaaay better then Cyp.
I take 12mg per day. I inject IM in my delts with 29g slin pins.
Keeps me at about 600 total T, and the top of the range of free T.
I use Aromasin, 6.25mg EOD (adex killed my libido, and crashed my e2).
If I use more than 12mg per day I start to lose the benefits of TRT
(Libido, erection strength, good mood, positive outlook etc).
I do a blast once a year on average and I get big time strength and size
gains, but I feel like shit from really high free T.
Even at the modest 87mg per week, I make regular strength and size
gains…but nothing like a 500-700mg per week cycle.
PKNY, my free T is always at the upper end of the range. I take Anastrozole, not A-dex.
Reading your post, I think that is my problem. My levels are just too high. I don’t have any of the benefits of T other than muscle retention and weight loss. Like I said, I’ve cut down to 44mg 2x/wk. I’m going to give it a month and get bw and see how it looks. I feel a little better already. Like I said, I wanted to know if switching to prop after cyp for 6 yrs was a good idea? I haven’t filled the script yet and will do so on Monday.
Once I start the prop, I’m going to go to 3x a wk.
“I would appreciate any input anyone could give me. I’m a disabled vet suffering from depression due to severe ringing in my ears due to artillery fire. I don’t know if the depression is having an impact or what but I know prior to taking t, I was much stronger, hit the gym 4 times/wk on avg and felt better.”
Olderguy, I rarely have ever posted anything on these forums as I prefer to soak up the knowledge on T-Nation and use the great Biotest supplements, but your post has me compelled to do so.
Here is my non-professional advice: Stop making excuses and get you arse into the gym. At those levels, T isn’t your problem - motivation and mentality are. There are a plethora of excellent training programs on T-Nation for beginners all the way through professionals. Find one that interests you and give it a month. I say a month because in my experience that is when the gym becomes a habit (i.e. I’m not going to miss a workout unless I’m bedridden), and the one month mark is where I really start to see and feel differences in my body composition.
Do yourself an additional favor and take body measurements in 1 week increments throughout that month. If you’re not sure what I mean, measure your natural waist, lower abs, hips, chest, neck, arms, thighs and calves. Really pay attention to what the measurements are telling you, not the scale - the scale is deceiving. Seeing your chest and arms grow while your waist shrinks is excellent motivation.
From one vet to another, if you put your mind, body and soul into it for at least a month (which should make you want to continue), I can almost 100% guarantee you that your depression will be a thing of the past.
Okay so now its week 9. And in brief what can I say? Prop > BEATS CYP everyday of the week.
Honestly I thought cyp was just slow to start… But I am honestly feeling nothing.
No muscle size, no alpha mentality, nothing…
Al I have been getting is mood swings and break outs especially on my lower back.
I even tried pyramiding it to try and get better output…
I worked out at 1ML of 100mg twice a week I would have had some left so asked a pro trainer and he recommended to pyramid up to 1.5 from 1.0 for a week then to 2.0 and back to 1.5… I am shooting my last 1.5 shot today. Got 2 weeks left 1.0, then 0.5.
Any recommendations? Done some reading and saw a couple other guys with the same issue… and main advice being Estradiol level being high? Should I go get more blood work done now? Is it even worth it with 2 weeks left?
Any advice is appreciated…
PS training and diet has not changed but Ive lost 2kgs since changing from prop to cyp and can even see it in size… its noticeable
You will need to do the Test. Prop. injections daily. Every other day
Will NOT keep your blood levels stable. I have recently been doing
25mg IM of Test. Prop. daily and my trough is approx. 750ng/dL.
However, at approx. the 48 hour mark my trough was about 50ng/dL. That is
not a typo. No joke. It must be done every 24 hours minimum.
