Watch a doom speedrun or a high level Quake III match. Pro gaming is no sport, but it requires the innate abilities of the top .01% to do well, just as with a real sport. No amount of practice could turn an average player into Fatal1ty or Thresh.[/quote]

Let’s not forget ZeRo4, he was a normal high school kid who played sports, and in his pass-time he would play quake, got really good at it, and made about $60,000USD playing it for a couple years (while in high school). Had nowhere near the publicity of fatality though. While I still wouldn’t classify gaming as a sport, in terms of physical exertion, his reflexes and ability to predict certain situations were really amazing.

Summary: There is very little innate talent involved in chess. Devote 10 years of your life to chess and become a Grandmaster.
