Prime Time: Barrt Simpson

blam, that facility was the best thing to happen to UW athletics! It keeps all of the cardio guys out of the weight room, leaving more room for the athletes.

In fact, based on a little rant (which turned out to be the most controversial letter to the editor of the year), I’d like to think I’m partly responsible for this happening!

How are the UG facilities?

Hey David, as a former student of the UofW(I got to UoGuelph now) I was wondering how the heck they ever decided to build that new gym @ columbia lake w/ absolutely no free weights or squat racks!

As a T-man you should not have stood for that abomination  [/quote]

oh one more thing, I noticed you asking MR about how to do board presses w/o a spot. I find the best thing is to strap it to yourself using one of the bungy tie downs you can get at any hardware stores. Works a lot better then tucking it in a tight shirt IMHO.

Pretty good, they have a seperate area for cardio and circuit training which is nice(cuts down on traffic). They have about 5 racks and they even got a GHR last year(to bad it is non-adjustable vertically, cant get it tight enough on my ankles). You do have to pay extra to use the facilities though which is kind of a bummer.

Oh ya, having a track to do sprints on is ok too. To bad it isnt insulated or heated. During the winter it is interesting doing HIIT in a winter parka.

Mike, I’m getting used to Canada again… the frostbite, the seal blubber, and of course, setting our elderly off on ice flows when they no longer contribute to the tribe.

It’s unfortunate that I gave everyone in Galveston the impression that Canadians are all overheated wimps, but I’m just a cold freak…

Fortunately, to answer your Q, it’s really cooled down.

Your facilities sound pretty good!

You reminded me of something though…
despite having the Canadian National Head Coach for track and field, UW still doesn’t have a track!

That’s Canada!

GL IV, another point about the obesity epidemic WRT research; nearly every research project I worked on in TX was related to diabetes. Sadly, this disease will take over the world (along for the ride with obesity).

Sports/exercise research is finished as a result. This is also creating a vacuum in ex phys labs, who can fill the void by funding by supplement companies.

Get ready to see a new wave of BS research coming out in the next decade.

Thanks blam! It’s really good to be out of an academic gym, where protein is bad (drugs’r bad, m’kay) and leg extensions rule.

Now if only this gym will get a reverse hyper…

David,

I saw you were going to do a new Creatine article. I currently take mine with Gatorade during my workout. Is that a good idea? Would it be better to take that before the workout? Thanks.

shouit, while I prefer my creatine post workout for a variety of reasons, there doesn’t seem to be direct evidence that one method is better than another.

It’s funny you mention this, becuase of the 3 sections of the article, timing of intake is one.

Is gatorade a good transport for creatine? Or would something else be better? I heard acidic drinks are not good and gatorade does have some acid in it.

It’s not bad, just don’t let the creatine sit in the liquid for too long.

As far as transport, you’d be better off by having something to stimulate insulin a little/lot more. I always suggest Surge because it not only jacks up insulin, but also has a little sodium in it (which may also help transport).

Cheers

Thanks for the questions guys!

Until next week, as they say in Canada; I’m oat’a here!
