Prime Time: Barrds Tale

Yes, beta alanine seems to exert a specific protective effect on an enzyme greatly affected by altitude.

I keep thinking back to 4 years ago to those physiology classes, trying to remember all of the details for something that might help…

Any chance she could suck on oxygen while there? It’d help, esp. the day of the meet.

Other than watching them pour molten steel, there wasn’t much there.

The pour.

Just curious…

Do you have any thoughts, experience, praise, or criticism of Beverly Internationals diet philosophies?

They make a few really good supplements, nothing that Biotest can’t match or even beat, but what about some of the strategies they tout?

They strongly recommend

-high potencey liver tabs year round.

-hydrolysated AA tabs - like 20-25 per day

And generally recommend a high fat/ lower carb diet.

I’ve even read where they support the use of Orange juice for post workout sugars. Not my first choice for sure.

What do you think?

Also do you think high protein diets (300-500g) have their place in dieting for fat loss? It seems that it would be easier to just add some more fats in if one needs calories. Protein is too expensive to run through gluconeogenesis all day. Perhaps that’s part of the strategy though because that alone cost the body energy. It just seems that the body would recognize a strong stimulus for burning AA’s and glucose with protein being so high when the idea is to preferentially burn fat.

What’s up big dog? It was a real pleasure getting to meet you at the seminar.

I can’t believe you took up two seats in front of me and almost pushed Shugs into the aisle. Those damn Pop Tarts must really work for bulking. And I can’t believe you won the big bag of goodies. Hook a brutha up!

Like I said when I met you, you have big guns (I did touch them) and you look a lot younger in person with the new afro puffs hiding under your hat.

Although you’re not much of a bar person (neither am I - I don’t drink), you should have come out and chilled with all of us. It was great, and it would have been nice to talk to you more (and maybe poke your arms too!). You could have chilled with me and my multiple cups of cold water. The chicks dig it too.

We definitely have to get a bunch of people together and do this again soon. Whether it’s at a local bar, the mall or even Starbucks, it would be all good (all of those places will have some hotties, even if they are only 15).

Yes, I do them all of the time. Well, I should do them all of the time, but admittedly don’t.

Most of us have postural issues (myself worse than most), which is where these exercises help.

BARR Bender -

Glad to see you made it home safely. no rest up; the SWIS is only 2 weeks away!

Stay strong

I’m off for tonight but will be back tomorrow for the Prime Time Grande Finale!

For now I’ll leave you with a pic of my sick brother in the desert (for no other reason than it’s funny now).

Cheers

That’s horrible, he looks so miserabarrle!

hahaha

Do you really think these would have value beyond the danger when used on someone who has posture problems? I don’t know if I could sacrifice the lumbar for rounded shoulders or a hunched back. I think there are way better exercises to fix this.

Supermans using one arm and leg at a time are probably way better. What do you think?

Possibility if I find a good ff to get some from there.

I will let her know what I have found out…

Thanks a million.

Good Morning,

Quick question on the Beta alanine, is it weight base/dose? And should she start taking it prior to leaving and the whole time there?

Thanks a million.

Malinda

Hey Dave,

Sorry to hear it’ll be your last Prime Time, T-Nation will be the worse off for it.

I’d like to ask about creatine absorption - should we take into consideration the sodium levels of the PWO drink before adding more?

Sorry to hear it’s your last night, hopefully you’ll still drop by the website now and then (other than Hockey what else is there to do up here in Canada between November and April umm… June).

Two questions:
First don’t you have spell check (its “barr” not “bar”)?
David Barr wrote:
Ditto. I’m just not a big Bar guy. Sign me up for a meeting at Starrbucks and I’ll be there.
Second question:

What is the difference between micellar cassein and calcium casseinate?

Since it’s your last night here’s the bonus question:

Where does egg albumin rate on the scale of apsorption timing?

Thanks

Welcome to the Last Prime Time EVER!

I’m on tonight until 10PM ET, so if you have questions, this is the time to ask.

What? Last ever? Huh? Mommy…

Dave,

You said that it is easy to make protein shakes ahead of time and take them with you. I am assuming that you mean to put them in a refrigerator at work.

Do you have any suggestions for guys that don’t have a refrigerator at their job or have to work on the road? Thanks.
DT20 It’s fine to keep your protein shakes at room temperature, so you can make them up in the morning and keep them with you on the road -unless of course you mix them up in milk.

Beverly is a pretty typical supplement company. Nothing too crazy to report on them.

I was discussing liver tabs with Dr.'s Ryan and Lonman this weekend at the Staley bootcamp. It seems that companies are bringing back supplements from the 80’s because they’ll seem new to this generation of suckers (my words, not theirs).

AA’s have their uses but are too complicated for Joe Blow to use effectively. Proetins are far more “user-friendly”.

I too prefer low CHO diets when cutting.

That’s not an unreasonable amount of protein by any stretch. I’m with you on the cost issue, and I see where you’re going with the oxidation argument. For the average person, these protein intakes may be a little high, but for bodybuilders/athletes, it’s a fine range.

Good questions!

ND, great to meet you too! You seem like a really fun guy and I’ll be happy to drink water with you next year.

I appreciate the “young” comment (I think), and as far as Pop Tarts go, I’m tellin’ ya they work!

BTW-I’ll let you know how kick ass those Larkin DVD’s are!

Hey Dave I just finished reading the genetics article by CT and saw he mentioned cordyceps sinensis. I was looking at this earlier and saw some good information showing increased production of testosterone in CS, F2(water soluble protein) and F3 (poorly water soluble polysaccharide and protein. There also showed significantly elevated plasma testosterone levels. Have you heard much of this compound or come across it in your research?

From PubMed

“In vivo and in vitro stimulatory effects of Cordyceps sinensis on testosterone production in mouse Leydig cells”

“Effects of Cordyceps sinensis on testosterone production in normal mouse Leydig cells”

Sounds great! It’s not quite as intimate as the Staley Bootcamp, but should be a good time none-the less.

I’ll show you how to avoid polar bears (who can sneak up on you if you’re not careful). Just because they drink Coke and play with baby seals doesn’t mean that they won’t eat you.
