Prime Time: 3 Hour Barrathon

You know, if you snatch with your left hand, it’ll feel like someone else (or so I’ve been told)

Doc, regarding the avatar, just don’t ask why my face is red or what I’m doing with my left hand.

Dave,

Regarding your avatar:

I think it is only fair to let the members know that your girlfriend lives in Boston and you are in Houston.

Therefore, I guess the picture in your avatar is the only snatch you’ve had in while.

Of course I’m married, so I guess I should go find a DB and get my camera as well.

Thanks again Dave.

Right now I’m just an undergrad, but I definitely plan on going for my Masters if not more, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Right now, my ultimate goal would to be a professor at a research college/university, but things can change. I’m currently working in a genetics lab to get a feel for how laboratory research works (although I’m doing grunt work they let me sit in on seminars and such so it is a learning experience).

My passion is nutrition, but I have yet to gain enough experience to see how I would like to apply it.

Sorry for the long reply, but I’m just about done. What journals do you read for current nutrition research articles and what journals would you recommend? I have access to a large online database since I’m an undergrad.

Thanks.

Oh, and I’m in Boston, so perhaps I could have your girlfriends number because we all know long distance relationships just don’t work. I kid.

Aaron.

Yeah, Shugs was feeding me a lot of beer that night, and I was feeling pretty woozy. After the interview, the rest of the night is just a blur.

Ya gotta watch that guy.

Earning your redwings???

Dave, can give us an example of what you typically eat on a training day an on a non-training day?

aaron, if you’re doing genetics now, RUN for your life! Basically, all research is now coming down to molecular biology -this is yet another nail in the coffin of applicable exercise science research.

Another good step? Try T.A.-ing. It’ll not only give you the experience with which to make an informed decision about this line of work, it’s also a great place to meet chicks. That’s how I met my GF (and no you can’t meet her!)

As for journals, here are a few that aren’t as obvious as JAP or Nutrition: CJAP, JSSM, JOURNAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF SPORTS NUTRITION, International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism.

Cheers

CU,
Hmmm… I’m in an odd situation now and will be writing an article about it in a few months. I don’t want to spoil all of my diet surprises.

Basically, I’ve just lost a ton of muscle over the past few months, but have now turned into an anabolic machine and added 10lbs in the past month and a half. Calories are the name of the game.

I’m a huge fan of dairy, and consume most of my protein in this form. I have several whey (plus sucrose) shakes a day, cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, Grow! Barrs, and of course late night Low-Carb Grow!

My GF didn’t like this, so she cooked me a ton of chicken and pork (she’s amazing) for me to freeze and eat as I want. Great stuff!

Another staple is macaroni and cheese (aka Kraft dinner). I throw in canned vegetables, tuna, spaghetti sauce, and lots of Tabasco (or a little habanero).

Mixed nuts are a daily fixture… and I just discovered Reese peanut butter cup ice cream. Wow.

Stay tuned…

Article Sneak Preview

If you’re reading on this second page then you deserve a little bonus info, so here’s a teaser of my upcoming article on the Top Ten Post Workout Myths

Myth #4) There is a one hour window of opportunity protein synthesis following a workout.

You may be wondering: is this a myth because the real window is half an hour? 2 or 3 hours? Maybe 6 hours? Sadly, in the past 2 weeks, I have read different articles, all suggesting that the “window” is one of the above lengths of time.

It’s not surprising that with this type of inconsistency that this is probably the most pervasive myth in bodybuilding today! Worse yet, it stems directly from the scientific research itself…

Stay tuned

What is the real window of opportunity!???

You know, it’s funny, but I was going to answer this question if someone asked… but since you offended me with your last post, I won’t tell you. Nate, you ruined it for everybody! LOL

I’ll give you a hint though: there is a popular FOX series by the same name…

(I’ve also mentioned it in passing, in other posts)

Don’t worry, it’ll be out soon!

That concludes the 3 Hour Barrathon.
Thanks for all of the questions tonight! I’ll be in D.C. this week, and will be sure to check in later on!

Cheers

“The Simpsons”? “When Wild Bodybuilders Attack”?

OK, I don’t get it. But we don’t have Fox in Spain, so maybe that’s what’s wrong. I’ll just wait for the article.

Dave,

Thanks again for the help, but I have to disagree with you regarding genetics no longer being a potential avenue to pursue in nutrition. Tufts is currently doing a lot of research regarding nutrigenomics, as is BU (specifically through the Framingham Heart Study). Regarding, genetics role in sports nutrition I’ll take your word for it, but regarding nutrigenomics it seems to be a field with great potential growth.

Aaron.

Prime Time is live and coming to you this week from the Nation’s capital (WDC).

[Quick, what’s the capital city of Canada?]

Okay, your turn to ask questions!

Canada Cit-eh

aaronm,I think we got our wires crossed on this one. I’m saying that all biological sciences are moving towards genetics and molecular biology.

BTW-“Framingham Heart Study?” did you make that up?

Eating well while travelling.

I’ve been on the move for the past several days, and this makes it a little more difficult to get my calories. Oh sure, you could go to th tourist spots and get a 5 dollar ice cream, or a 30 dollar entree for dinner, but I’m a student and on a budget.

Throw in the fact that travelling, while fun, is often associated with emotional stress and sleep deprivation, making it that much more critical to get adequate nutrition.

Here’s how I’ve been doing it: casein Drinks and foods in Barr form.

While exploring a new city, I don’t want to stop what I’m doing every 3 hours to eat. This is where a good Low-Carb Grow! shake will come in handy. Fire this off before you start your day and you’ll be set for a while.

When you DO need to eat, foods in Barr form are perfect, and they won’t cost you an arm and a leg. I prefer Grow! Barrs and chocolate Barrs. Granola Barrs are also good.

It’s not perfect, but it’s cost effective and it works!
