I come here to learn and to have my own beliefs and ideas tested. I’m not interested in people just spitting out their ideology and considering it always “right”…and anyone who doesn’t agree is always wrong.
It is also the reason I detest “news” like Hannity or Maddow.
I don’t know how many remember; but a few years ago; PWI almost literally became a religious Board; with post after post of some guy posting why he beliefs were “right”…and convincing others of the “evil” of their positions.
I was done.
(It also is a reason, (among many others), that you will never, ever see me get involved in threads about religion or abortion).
I certainly hope that reasonable discussion on Political topics can continue, and that we all can continue to learn from each other.
Trump did better with Hispanics and Blacks than Romney
Can you imagine how well he would have done had a significant portion of the Republican party not spent so much time undermining him? It would have been an even greater win.
Hoping that since the day isn’t officially over yet I can get at least one final analysis from @anon50325502, @Sloth and @smh_23 before they part ways for the duration of the bet, if I can’t get them to stay.
Especially since Zeb released the bet terms in this thread, nobody is bound now, since payment was relieved.
Regardless, hoping for a final analysis of why we saw what we saw last night, and what played into it.
And this is why internet bets are foolish. They don’t add anything of value - if someone takes a position, do you believe them more because they backed it with a bet? Is the position any more meaningful? Of course not, they turn out either bring right or wrong, and regardless, what good does it do anyone for smart, articulate, interesting posters to disappear because they guessed something wrong?
It shows you what honorable gentlemen these guys are by being willing to oblige their end of the deal, but that comes as no surprise to me. I have deep respect for all three of them.
Eh, I beg to differ. If Mitt Romney jumped in and started his executive bobble head routine plus many others, I think it would have moved a lot of the middle americans back over to Hillary.
There were a lot of people who weren’t going to vote for any of the party republicans that did vote for Trump.
I heard a great phrase that summed up this election. Trump gave America a great big enema, and what was expelled from the bowels of Washington were the Bush and Clinton dynasties. Now it’s time to wipe, flush, and move forward.
Hey, who wants to step forward and claim the bragging rights of saying to me in one of these PWI threads, a full two years ago, (paraphrased) “mark my words, Trump will be elected POTUS”. I forgot who it was, maybe Zeb?
I can’t claim that interaction and don’t usually make statements like that, but I saw that he could be a serious contender from the time he announced his run.
Yeah. As a candidate he was much more appealing as a reformer and man against the machine to a big swath of people that usually would not have voted for a republican. He swept whole swaths of the country that are traditionally strongly union, and therefore also democrat.
Honestly, guys. We don’t interact a pile. If you want an out on social media, take the ball and run with it, but I think the whole forum would take a loss if you left.
Well, you were right on that count. The Dem’s lost this election. They pushed the scale for her vs O’Mally and Web and Bernie. I hope the DNC are in existential crisis right now.
Trump was a GOP gamble taken by GOP voters without major donor’s backing. Hilary had the DNC finger on the scale throughout. Their party administration chose this, and helped it happen.
As you say they pushed Hillary Clinton and did not allow the natural primary process to take place as did the republicans. Many may not have liked who won the republican primaries but at least it was a fair process.
The left got the result that they deserved putting out such an undesirable candidate as Hillary Clinton. And now they are paying the price.
I was just watching the protestors marching in Chicago and New York. Apparently they didn’t like the outcome of the Presidential race. I remarked to my wife that I wondered how many of those marching actually voted. Since I noticed that there was a low turnout of millennials and the overwhelming number of marchers looked to fall in that same age range.
They should be angry with the process that DNC Dictator Wasserman Schultz took the democrats through ramming Hillary down their throats when they obviously wanted almost anyone but her. Even old Bernie the Socialist might have beaten her in a fair contest.
Certainly the most interesting Presidential race that I have witnessed in my lifetime.
