Prebiotics Supplementation? (More than Eating Fruits/Vegitables)

Hi,

I’ve had digestive issues so i’ve been playing with different supps a lot. i use hcl and probiotics and i’ve been thinking of dropping the probiotics and instead just supplementing with lots of inulin and fructo-glisaccharides.

basically, from what i’ve read, is that even with the acid-resistance probiotics there is no proof that they ever reach the large intentine to support healthy gut bacteria. i have found one study showing how inulin supplementation does though.

does anyone know any other studies, or have heard a lot about prebiotic supplementation? (yes, and real studies-- not some dumbass holistic doctors-- which leads me to a side note, why are hippy doctors so obsessed with enemas and cleanses for digestive issues… fucking morons imo)

and, does anyone else do this? i know inulin is put in one type of Metabolic Drive.

anyways here is the link i found:
one is a study on infants: http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/abstract/137/11/2585S
and… a study on pigs- heh they put it in feed to make their shit smell better:
Excretion of major odor-causing and acidifying compounds in response to dietary supplementation of chicory inulin in growing pigs - PubMed
on the google this is all i’ve been able to find.

any other constructive comments much appreciated =)

Check out Primadophilus Optima by Natures Way. I’ve had great sucess with it. One every other day or one every third day works fine. I take it on an empty stomach.

there’s no proof they get in there but is there proof that they don’t get in there ?

i mean at the end of the day they are in there aren’t they ?

how else would they get in there if not through what we consume ?

ok, again i’m no expert, but usually people already have the “good” types of bacteria in their large intestines. the problem is that it is not in a high enough ratio to the “bad” bacteria. by taking probiotics you are hopefully adding more good bacteria, but the problem is it first has to get past your stomach acids and enzymes. most probiotic studies talk about it taking months to see an effect for some people. by taking prebiotics, u are feeding the good bacteria in your stomach, and that might change the balance faster than just adding more. the prebiotic studies i’ve found show changes in gut flora in ~ 10 days. a couple months vs 10 days…

i’m not saying this is definitively better, i’m just seeing if anyone out there has more information.

also, its my second day taking 10g of inulin a day. and well, i’m def noticing a difference from the added fiber, but that’s about it (nothing crazy). i could get the same effect thusfar with just metamucil. 'going to give it the full 1/2 month though
