No, I’m not gonna get involved in this debate. I think I’ve expressed my opinion on this enough times in the past.
However TC, I have a request:
In your rotation of PI’s of the men, you occasionally throw a strength competition photo in the mix (olympic lifting, strongman comp, powerlifting). It would be nice to see an occasional female strength comp PI instead of the steady diet of physique contest contestants and models.
Personally, I’d like to see more strength comp PI’s in general (men and women).
BTW, the caption for the photo:
“Natasha Barker’s bronze is Australia’s third weightlifting medal, all bronze and all won by women.”

Personally, I couldnt agree with PGJ more. I’m fairly new here, and am a woman. I already turned off the Powerful Images feature both at work and at home because:
i’d be embarassed if anyone saw some of those images on my screen
i REALLY do not find them motivating orinspiring.
many of them are anything but powerful.
Honestly, the same could be said for many of the pictures that appear with the articles. They are often just gratitutious boob or ass shots, and cheapen the message of the article and the look of the whole site.
On good days i just ignore it, on bad days i really feel that the site appears a lot less credible than it could be. Today is a bad day.
Hmmm, and what’s your view on women only fitness clubs? This site hasn’t been promoted as men only and while women are welcomed here, don’t expect to get too warm a reception if you try and change it to your perception of what men should like. Like other’s have said just change or personal options or leave. I get sick of the bullshit that a few people seem to think everyone else should cater to their insecurities, as your willingnes to say shit like this depends on wether you’re having a “bad day” or not. Lame.
I bet if you looked anything like the women in these pics you wouldn’t be complaining.
Lighten up, Uncle Pervie. Nobody is making any demands or expecting to be catered to. It was just an observation I had and I made a recomendation. I was over-ruled. Relax.
Excuse me, Uncle pervy? Who needs to lighten up? You are the guy that suggested things be changed to suit your viewpoint. All it would take is for you to change your options, but no, we should all have to change for you, nice.
I apologize for the name calling. That was not necessary.
This topic has been discussed to death so many times, but I still don’t get it. While a hot chick in bikini, with a feminine pose is a problem, an ugly* chick in bikini, with a masculine pose is not.
Seriously, can any of you actually have one of those images of a buff, ugly*, oiled up and masculine women in a bikini, without having friends/co-workers/bosses/teachers…etc seeing it and go “wtf is that?!” ? Now that’s provocative and embarressing.
Not saying women with muscle is ugly, but very buff women in contest shape certainly is.

Pretty powerful.

I’d love nothing better than to run more powerlifting/O-lifting pics, but when I crop them to fit the space I’m alloted, the pics look real small.
This one, for instance, would show up about 1 by 1 3/4 inches. If I cropped it to make it more vertical, you couldn’t even tell she had a weight over her head.

Yes, I know about the format contraints you have to deal with. I just thought I would make my suggestion and should you come across something suitable that you would consider it for a PI.
The way I always interpreted it was that powerful images aren’t necessarily designed to be eye candy, inspiring, or any other type of joy joy feeling. Powerful images provoke a reaction, whether that reaction is admiration or awe, an erection, or disgust.
The point is that you take notice one way or another. I remember their being one of those uber muscled shemale freaks one day in the powerful images. I was disgusted, but that’s the point. Powerful Images forces you to confront your own feelings about what is presented. THAT’S THE POINT.
In many respects T-Nation is quite similar in attitude. We display an in your face attitude and unashamedly so. We aren’t afraid of fights, insults, and controversy. T-Nation forces you to constantly reevaluate who you are, what you believe, what you find attractive, what you don’t, what you admire and what you don’t.
I’m pretty sure TC is comfortable with silicon girls as well as so called ‘freaks’. I’m sure the majority of us are too. We aren’t afraid of images that arouse us and shock us. If you can’t handle them then you have the option of turning them off, and if you can’t handle the philosophy of T-Nation, there is always bodybuilding.com
And to TC: YOU PUSSY. Don’t change because we tell you to. Marketing is all well and good, but don’t sacrifice the soul of the site in an attempt to sell the site to everybody.
That’s like me asking you to stop doing the Atomic Dog. I consider you to be hit and miss, and you often give me the shits. However don’t think for one second that I ever not read an Atomic Dog on the very day it comes out.
If you took away everything that offended some people, this site would be a big fat blank.

I think if everyone goes back and re-reads my original idea, this is exactly what I was talking about. There are PLENTY of super-hot women who look like they lift. I was suggesting keeping the fitness theme going. T
he non-fitness eye-candy is fine, but this being a fitness website, it thought it would be more appropriate to show fitness babes (Jamie, Monica, Melissa D…).

Yes, I realize I can turn it off. That’s not the point. This is a bidybuilding/strength/fitness website. Why not use pictures that exemplify this? Using soft-porn is gratuitous and cheapens the intent of the site.
I guess the guys who come here and never visit the lifting forums like the pics. It’s not a big deal, just an idea.
If I tell a friend about T-Nation and they visit, they might get the wrong impression (especially with the girl in the blue plastic outfit bending over). [/quote]
Listen, just because your wifee has you poosay whipped, doesn’t mean you have to try and ruin it for the rest of us. And by the way, if you tell a friend about the site, they won’t see any powerful images, because you have to be logged in to see them.
TC, that isn’t even funny. What happened to forever jacked? I actually think there should only be women in the powerful images, because I don’t care to see any guys in banana hammocks showing their marble bag, or displaying their striated glutes…

O.K., thanks for letting us in on that bit of info.
Every time you see a picture of a good looking woman on this site be sure and let us know you don’t like it.
