Power Trip

Got a little behind on posting here. Prep for the meet–and we’re talking the meet director aspect,has been consuming me, coupling that with midterms kind of pushed me to the edge and training went on the mental back-burner. T-shirts, plaques, refs, spotters/loaders, sponsors…bit of a logistical nightmare when they all come to you at the same time with questions. But things should start together at the end of the week and I’ll begin to see if I’m really going to be able to lift; for now, I’ll train like I am. I’ve got a National squat record to break and fully intend to clean out the Provincial record book on my openers, we actually have 5-6 90kg Juniors coming out; if that doesn’t push me, what will?

Here’s a bit of summary of what I’ve been doing.

Friday and Saturday I did some bodybuilding training with a fellow trainer and friend, Friday was back and shoulders and Saturday was mostly arms…I needed a break and this certainly helped. Will be incorporating some of this stuff in a 6-8 week “prep” block after this meet. I need to put on a good 5-7lbs of muscle if I want to be even close to as full as the rest of the competition at Junior Worlds next year.

Sunday’s Training

Warm-Up, Upper Body
3 minutes

Bench Press [Comp.]
154x5
187x4
221x3
243x2
254x2
265x2
276x2
287x3 2 Board
309x3 2 Board
320x3 2 Board
331x3 2 Board

This felt decent considering how out of the loop I was feeling. The “plan” said I was squatting…wasn’t happening, was mostly there to help ED who managed an easy 295/650, he should be good for 305/310 kg at the meet if everything comes together, check it: http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/blog_sports_body_training_performance_bodybuilding_log/training_log_powerliftingweightlifting?id=3648825&pageNo=6

Tuesday’s Training

Stick Rolling, Lower Body
3 minutes

Warm-Up, Lower Body
5 minutes

1A] Squats:
165x5
254x4
309x3

…add B&W…
452x1
…add suit SD…
518x2
562x1
…SUp…
606x1
639x1

…and then I was off to work. Was marginally happy with this, but its been proven that I’m my own biggest critic–by quite a lot. Apparently 639 looks pretty good and within an inch of depth, I’ll take that; in hind-site…can’t really be disappointed, this hasn’t been a “peak” and I’ve been pretty human lately (ya I know). If I can manage some PR’s at this meet then I can only imagine what I’ll be able to do when I get some consistent training in the books.

I’ll keep you, the mysterious log readers updated on the meet process (from both angles)…it really seems like a soap opera in the making (maybe I’ll squeeze an article or blog post out about it eventually).

Toodles.

So I’ll have company on my winter swollertrophy phase? Good

Pff…like you’ll show up half the time…

Thursday’s Training

2B] MNG Pull-Ups: BWx10x5 sets

3A] MNG ISO Pulldowns: 12x4 sets
3B] Fat Bar Pressdowns: 12x4 sets

Had a midterm today and as always was up at 5am to study…I’m not a morning guy, so I went into this session feeling a little more retarded than usual. However, deadlifts moved fine–reps weren’t as smooth as I would have liked but 650 felt better than 606 and I know I still had 7.5-10kg in the tank on this day (you can judge from video to come later)…hoping that translates into a 305-310 pull on a 10/10 day. Weight was at 89.2kg’s today…so making 90 is not an issue.

You are an inspiration brother…but if i can’t beat you i will have to kill you…

and rape your lifeless body…

as long as you pulled that with pink capris on…

I can’t believe you didn’t respond to my post…I am hurt…a pox upon your house sir.

@Alpha
I was simply pondering; all of those sound good to me. Time and date brother.

A bit of a video update:

October 3rd Squats:

October 14th Deadlifts:

Tuesday’s Training

Stick Rolling, Lower Body

Warm-Up, Lower Body

226x5x3 sets

2B] WG Pull-Ups:

That was it; frequency is down both because this no-so-peakish-peak is winding down and because I’m so stressed with meet organization and classes at the moment. I could probably do something every day of the week and peak just fine but the added stress wouldn’t do me good right now. And to be completely contradictory–I will attempt to learn a new shirt over the next half a week. Out.

Meh first day in this beast of a shirt…will try again to touch something on Saturday, if that doesn’t work I’ll opt for my Metal shirt.

Can’t wait to get back to prep block training.

2B] WG Pull-Ups:
BWx12x4 sets

<3 dude WTF are you doing on the 35th page? I know you are busy, but you were soooooooooooooomuch hotter when you USED to lift…

kidding man, good luck with everything involved with the meet, I can only imagine what a logistical nightmare it must be…

But when you are done with it all, expect a bunch of vids with me asking you WTF i am doing wrong with my DL form…your DL being stronger than me is BS and it needs to stop…I figure you can help me with that…

Damn Canadians…lots of wilderness, heavy deadlifts, hot women…you guys piss me off…or I might convert…

anyway, i’ll see you when you get back to normal life…

Hope the meet goes smoothly and you kill some weights. Good luck!

@Alpha
Thank you sir, I’ll do my best to answer any questions you may have. Feeling healthy again? 35th page would have been with Hanley’s log…that’s hardly fair.

@mrodock
Appreciate it; as I mentioned it was going to be a short notice decision as to whether or not I’d be lifting. Meet directing has taken a lot out of me and will have to take precedent this time, it became apparent that if I did both one would suffer more than I’d be happy with and in this case it would be the lifting. I could have done some openers/2nds and got rid of that platform rust but ultimately decided against it. I believe I made the right decision, would have had to cut 2kg to make 90 combine that with setting up at the venue until 10pm last night, not getting a wink of sleep then being up at 5am to get the venue setup in time… wouldn’t equal an ideal lifting experience.

My next meet is in late January, just waiting for the meet direct to confirm the date. I intend to get my elite total out of the way there and most importantly have zero responsibilities outside of my own lifting (it’s time to be a little self centered).

Well, I must say it was a well run meet indeed. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we all appreciate the work you put into it- especially given the short notice dropout of certain uh…people who shall remain unnamed.

Well it sounds like the meet went really well and you have a few months to prepare properly for a meet, sounds about perfect!

@JK
I’m sure you would have went 9 for 9 if I hadn’t dropped out and given you that extra 90 seconds of rest in flight B; appreciate the kind words Mr.T.

@mrodock
Thanks! 12 weeks out at this point.

Yes, but then the prestigious 90kg junior win would not be mine, and we can’t have that.
Onto the swollertrophy
