Got a little behind on posting here. Prep for the meet–and we’re talking the meet director aspect, has been consuming me, coupling that with midterms kind of pushed me to the edge and training went on the mental back-burner. T-shirts, plaques, refs, spotters/loaders, sponsors…bit of a logistical nightmare when they all come to you at the same time with questions. But things should start together at the end of the week and I’ll begin to see if I’m really going to be able to lift; for now, I’ll train like I am. I’ve got a National squat record to break and fully intend to clean out the Provincial record book on my openers, we actually have 5-6 90kg Juniors coming out; if that doesn’t push me, what will?
Here’s a bit of summary of what I’ve been doing.
Friday and Saturday I did some bodybuilding training with a fellow trainer and friend, Friday was back and shoulders and Saturday was mostly arms…I needed a break and this certainly helped. Will be incorporating some of this stuff in a 6-8 week “prep” block after this meet. I need to put on a good 5-7lbs of muscle if I want to be even close to as full as the rest of the competition at Junior Worlds next year.
Sunday’s Training
Warm-Up, Upper Body
3 minutes
Bench Press [Comp.]
154x5
187x4
221x3
243x2
254x2
265x2
276x2
287x3 2 Board
309x3 2 Board
320x3 2 Board
331x3 2 Board
This felt decent considering how out of the loop I was feeling. The “plan” said I was squatting…wasn’t happening, was mostly there to help ED who managed an easy 295/650, he should be good for 305/310 kg at the meet if everything comes together, check it: http://tnation.T-Nation.com/free_online_forum/blog_sports_body_training_performance_bodybuilding_log/training_log_powerliftingweightlifting?id=3648825&pageNo=6
Tuesday’s Training

Warm-Up, Lower Body
5 minutes
1A] Squats:

…add B&W…
452x1
…add suit SD…
518x2
562x1
…SUp…
606x1
639x1
…and then I was off to work. Was marginally happy with this, but its been proven that I’m my own biggest critic–by quite a lot. Apparently 639 looks pretty good and within an inch of depth, I’ll take that; in hind-site…can’t really be disappointed, this hasn’t been a “peak” and I’ve been pretty human lately (ya I know). If I can manage some PR’s at this meet then I can only imagine what I’ll be able to do when I get some consistent training in the books.
I’ll keep you, the mysterious log readers updated on the meet process (from both angles)…it really seems like a soap opera in the making (maybe I’ll squeeze an article or blog post out about it eventually).
Toodles.
