I’m 15 years old and have been training for over a year. I’ve always supplemented with a protein blend post workout and have been unsure about my carb sources to use. I’ve had a trainer tell me to use oats, and have been doing so, but Im not sure if the carbs are fast-acting enough. I’m interested in purchasing Surge Recovery and wondering if that is worth it.
I am 15 like you and I have used Surge Recovery before and to be honest i have noticed better recovery with it but its not absoulutley neccesary,BUT what are your goals?

My goals are mainly strength but i am also conscious of body comp and performance if that makes sense to ya lol. So I guess my goal is that I want to take full advantage of the post workout “window” to maximize strength gains. Surge is just kinda expensive lol.
It really doesn’t matter but what u choose makes a difference. Oats are great if ur trying to stay lean an get ur macros add fruit To spike ur insulin. Spiked insulin after workouts allow the muscles to absorb protien and spiked insulin post workouts ups protien synthesis. So eat fruit or drink a 8oz of simple fruit juice with ur protien whey
While Surge is indeed a great product, and I do recommend it a lot to others (I use it myself!), I made great gains for years relying on poptarts as my post workout carb source. Actually, I still work them into my daily #s when I’m dieting for a contest. Definitely some serious addiction at this point.

haha, you love to bring this up. I henceforth dub thee “the poptart natty.”
20 to 40 grams of dextrose, maltodextrin, or waxy maize/waxy rice in a PWO shake. You are looking for a spike in blood sugar and insulin, and, no, not all carbs are created equal for this purpose. If you don’t have access to these, white bread or over-ripe, brown spotted bananas will work, just not as well. Pop tarts seems like another good food option if you don’t have access to dextrose, maltodextrin, or waxy maize/waxy rice to add to a PWO shake, and who can argue with the Mighty Stu?
I either use Surge Recovery (tastes AMAZING too) or whey+powdered Gatorade (tastes like a creamsicle). Powdered gatorade is dextrose and sucrose (the bottles of liquid Gatorade are unforutnately HFCS).
