I’ve talked about the idolatry concept before, with respect to Steveo and his ilk.
They don’t seem to understand that God is not the bible, nor is God some fictional white guy on a cross at the front of a church. Nor is God some evangelistic preacher making proclamations about the fate of various people.
These are objects… mere representations, and as such should only be reminders or guides.

I’m definitely Christian, with very traditional beliefs, in fact. However, I don’t presume to judge that someone will be cast into hellfire upon death. Nor, do I approve of using my faith to antagonize people into these kind of hopeless debates.
I have to say, the proselytizing from the believers and non-believers in this thread isn’t my thing. I prefer the company of my religious and non-religious friends who refrain from antagonizing and ridiculing each other. And now I make my exit from this thread.[/quote]
Hear, hear - very well stated, Sloth. “Antagonism” - perfect word for it.
Although most Christians on this board don’t even agree with SteveO’s methods, much less anyone else, it’s always interesting when these threads pop up.
SteveO, go ahead and tell us all that we’re doomed to hell.
Even though you don’t know any of us personally, you can’t really ignite the thread to the level of fun and fury of the past without telling us all that we’re doomed.
Do you still contribute to Jimmy Swaggart’s ministry?
How about ol Jim Baker?
Their message was probably not up to your standards but, they had to spend a lot of their time with accountants, CPA’s and such where all you have to do is turn on your computer.

I too am christian and Steve-o’s methods here disgust me.
Please people who do actually take him seriouse, don’t group him in with all christians. Types like steve-o would count the number of times they “save” people as if it was currency to buy their way into heaven. They would have you say those magic words, then smile and never think of you again. No not even to help you follow the bible.
They would say “Oh lord look how many souls I have brought you today”. Without even realizing that without christ there would be no souls to save. With them it is always I I I I or ME ME ME ME.
A real christian will never fear for you soul, for he has faith in god to work it out. And believes that god is all powerful, and realizes that god works through him to accomplish things. A real christian is humble. They will not push their beliefs on you, but let god shine through so that you would see that god works through their life, and desire the same effect.
Anyways that was how I always understood christianity, I despise people like steve-o since his methods have a very negative impact on people who are truly concerned with following the bible, and less concerned about buying their way into heaven.
A true christian doesn’t do the work of god, but lets god work through him.
Wow. This is an interesting post. I think it’s even more interesting to look at how many views and responses that this thread has gotten compared to some of the other threads. Guess it just says something about what stuff people think is important to talk about.
Concerning this idea, there’s a book by CS Lewis called ‘Mere Christianity’ in which he suggests that the importance that people put on religion, whether it be for or against, suggests that there is something more to this life. I’m not too far into the book, but it’s an interesting read and it’s in pretty simple and understandable language.
Maybe the book has already been mentioned on this thread, but the comparison of the number of views and posts here just reminded me of Lewis argument, and I thought I would share.
I may have come across a bit too strong in the above post, but it just pisses me off when I get judged by people because they have encountered people like steve-o.
I guess I can relate to you guys there, just like you don’t like to be told your going to hell, I dont like to be thought of as a self righteous prick.

You’re right. Steve-O is a piece of shit.
I hate that bastard. Thinking he;s all high and mighty because he read some book which he doesn’t even really understand the meaning of.
Its people like this that made me renounce my faith. I’d rather be an Atheist. At least that way, I don’t deal with that many self-centered pieces of shit giving free advice and taking none (not even the same advice dished out).
Fucking bible thumpers.
BTW SwampThing. Very considerate post above. Shows good character in my opinion.
While all the arguing makes for an interesting thread, I think Steve is sincere and actually wishes only the best for all of us, which would be accepting of Jesus, to him. That’s cool and certainly better than meth or some of the other stupidity that people do.
