The Showboys - Drag Rap:

This I’m diggin’.

And that shit is from 1984!

Awesome, now you’ve got me searching for more ‘New Orleans Bounce’ [that’s what they called it in the vid] :D. [/quote]

That would be the correct term. Here’s a good example of the influence on the MasterP/No Limit craze back in the '90s.

Mia X - I’ll Take Ya Man:

TRU - Bout it Bout it

anything UGK is great!

Good stuff. I can see what your pointing out. I just read a wikipedia article on this stuff [:D] and they mentioned “Back That Azz Up” as being related (well they said it was part of NOB) too, so it’s all starting to make sense.

If there are any other significant artists from the genre from way back feel free to post 'em. It’d be greatly appreciated, I think this stuff’s pretty good.

By far the best Mater P song of all time, and came out in '97 I believe-

I don’t really know how to post links, but it’s a video for a group called Darc Mind. You guys should definitely check them out. Just type in Darc Mind on youtube and click on a couple of videos. They are from the 90’s but were pretty underground even then, so they re released in 2008.

Big L and Jay z:

Pharcyde - Passing Me By

Nas - Deja Vu

Rakim - When I Be On The Mic

Gang Starr - Mass Appeal

Souls of Mischief - Cab Fare

Mobb Deep - Survival of the Fittest

Redman - Time for some action

Common - Take it EZ

Ahh…man, not you got my wheels turning…lol. Its hard finding anything from the early pioneers…as most were more known locally. You had Willie Puckett,Katy Red,DJ Jubilee…to name a few. I did find this clip of a documentary they did on New Orleans Bounce:

I will say that most Bounce music will have some variation of the “Triggerman” beat from the Drag Rap song I posted earlier…and that is was straight up just dance/party music.

Your more “hard” rap artists didn’t really start using it till No Limit,Cash Money,U.N.L.V. started coming out…and Three Six Mafia,Outkast, etc. Most of the catch phrases from “Crunk” comes from Bounce music.

Some of these are older Bounce songs…some are more recent that have that Bounce influence:

Z.Black - Second Line(lol…at the Popeye’s Chicken)

Partner’s In Crime - N.O. Block Party

U.N.L.V. - Drag 'Em N Tha River

Three Six Mafia(T.D.C.U.T.) - Push 'Em Off

David Banner - Like A Pimp

That’s all I can think off the top of my head. This link should give you some good info as well.

Ha. Wol, you’re a trip. Boss, I almost posted that UNLV song. Someone started a thread a long time ago asking if you were a fighter what song would you walk out to, and I said that would be mine, although I might change it to “don’t sweat the technique” now. Maybe. Didn’t the guy who wrote it get murdered shortly after it dropped?

ps. Wol, I will not be licking your boom boom down…

Yeah,Yella Boy was killed. Lots of beef with them and Cash Money…and Mystikal…which led to lots of rumors of them having something to do with his murder at the time.

Thought so. Wasn’t the song a “warning” 'cause Mystikal raped his sister or something along those lines?
