It’s pretty hard to make a point when people like you refuse to listen to reason. FYI, the diamond industry is controlled by the de Beers in South Africa. What happened in Sierra Leone was a civil war, similar to civil wars throughout Africa. The guerilla forces there sold diamonds to finance their campaign against the government. The atrocities were their way of keeping the population in line. But I guess that justifies porn somehow. Porn’s really not that bad. A majority of murderers and sex offenders say that porn was a major factor in committing their crimes; but porn’s not bad. The pornography industry has always been involved with and pervaded by organizations and people who engage in prostitution, organized crime, racketeering, money laundering, drug running, etc.; but porn’s not bad. It’s those damn political, religious, and right-wing extremists who are dangerous. How would we define how dangerous they are, hate crimes maybe? Of 11,605,571 reported crimes in the United States in 2000, 9,430 hate crimes were reported. That’s a whopping .08 percent of all reported offenses. As a percentage of the violent crimes of murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, they make up an even larger .09 percent. What a problem those extremists are.
True, if you compared the percentages of porn stars who become “fuck-ups” to the amount of people in lets say the “accounting” industry, obviously the percentages would be different. But thats a stupid argument for a lot of reasons. First of all, your average porn star is much younger, and much more susceptible to give in to temptations. Also, accountants tend to have a different type of social life than a porn star, to say the least. Secondly, you have to understand that the majority of porn stars who become fuck-ups, were fuck-ups before they ever got into the biz! A lot of porn stars had difficult childhoods that include rape, sexual abuse and molestation by family members. And thats just the tip of the iceberg for some of them. So to say that the industry is what caused their “demise” is really off-base.

While most porn stars tend to be “damaged goods”, the trauma that causes this occurs far before the decision to enter porn. Porn, rather than destroying these women, provides a comfortable living for women who would otherwise be back alley crackwhores. Porn never traumatized these women, bad parenting did. While their lives may not be your idea of paradise, they live far better than they would ever have had the chance to otherwise, given the circumstances to which they had previously been subjected to. Rather than subjecting all of us to your reactionary rants, why don’t worry about your own family first? Just remember though, quite a few porn stars were neither beaten nor abused, but rather subjegated under the yoke of intrusive and overbearing parents. Also, lets not forget that moralistic crusades have killed far more people that porn ever will. Who the hell are you to question someone else’s decision if it hurts no one other than themselves? Where do you get the right to pass judgement on the personal decisons of others? So you find sex on camera offensive? I find the comparison between porn and international terrorism to be offensive you insensitive clod. Although, I’m suddenly reminded that both Pat Robertson and Osam Bin Laden agreed that the attacks were an act of god meant to punish America for it’s decadence (pagans, homosexuals, and feminists in P.R.'s words). Maybe they were right?

Y’all are acting ludicrous, putting words into his mouth, making assumptions, and flipping logic five or six times in one paragraph. Here are some hints – there is no one single monolithic ‘porn industry;’ comparing porn to the diamond industry innately implies that you consider porn to be destructive, but by comparing it to the diamond industry you’re saying that other industries are worse, thus diminishing porn’s negative impact already implied by your own words. That’s called shooting yourself in the foot. Also, try to stop assuming that maxxed is a moralizing reactionary, it just makes you look childish – instead focus specifically on maxxed’s points, first the factual, then rhetorical, take each specific point, negate or counter it, then make your conclusion. Reading your replies to maxxed REALLY seem like desperate self-justifications because of some primitive reaction to a speaker who subconsciously reminds you of parents or other authority figures who you perceived as controlling you when you were going through one of your rebellious developmental phases.
C’mon…make this debate more interesting…break past maxxed’s initial arguments so we can maybe have some meaningful conversations on this matter, which clearly isn’t black or white, no matter how much either side of this debate tries to make it.

I’m a big believer in the self fulfilling prophecy. If you believe porn will ruin your life then you’ll get paranoid and start looking for the problems and YOU will ruin your life or maybe even kill yourself. THIS APPLIES TO EVERYTHING. Everybody makes their own choices. Not your friends, not the porn, not anything/anyone else but YOU. It’s sad that some people choose to believe otherwise. And start judging others.
Some poeple just try to make up reasons for what they don’t understand to fit their own insecurities and beliefs when the real reason those porn stars (or school kids for that matter) killed themselves is that they may have just had a chemical imbalance in their brain, or other things in their life had an impact on it.
It’s interesting…two years ago, I would have agreed with every pro-porn sentiment on this thread. However, ever since I found a woman who attracts me to every single physical and emotional fiber, porn seems so…absolutely booring, especially with all the fake grunts and groans, the plastic-looking women, and the absolutely dorky guys…the whole thing is just pathetic. Guys and gals – find someone who REALLY turns you on. And if you’re with someone who doesn’t completely turn you on to the point that you’re substituting (as opposed to augmenting) your sexual fun with external stimulus, do both yourself AND them a favor, and break up with them…find someone else. Porn is most often the tool for people who have given up on the sincere possiblity that they can find someone who really turns them on.
