Pope Pisses on America

You’ve failed to point out the “bile.”

Edit: See, I would think “bile” would amount to something like calling upon Catholics to slay unbelievers living in America. Apparently, it means one must praise the US without an acknowledgment that things haven’t always been perfect, even for us. In short, you have to kiss ass and look ignorant of US history.
Bile means to praise the US without remembering the past, in fact, act ignorant of the past? What are you talking about?

What bullshit was he full of?

It’s easy to insult and pick on the Past. It cannot defend itself. It’s also cowardly. America has come a long way in atoning for it’s past. For some charlatan to come along and attempt to throw shame and guilt at a nation while simultaneously having worse skeletons in his institutions closet… it’s unconscionable.

That bullshit.

This brief mention of our sad past, that we ourselves moved away from, negated every compliment, prayer, and the hopeful message he carried here to the youth? Wow.

So, when someone speaks with contempt towards you, you think “oh, that wasn’t nice, but I’ll let it slide 'cause he lavished me with praise” ?!?

Contempt? Where did you get this “contempt” stuff from? What?

Acknowledging previous problems (that have been and continue to be adressed) in order that we are mindful of their causes and do not forget what has come before, can hardly be considered spewing bile.

And should I (an outsider) acknowledge your problems to your children?

You called it bile, that he acknowledged the US has had it’s own problems. This could only mean you’d rather him heap endless praise upon the US, without acknowledging where we’d fallen short. Basically, he’d have to look like an idiot concerning our history for you to be satisfied. He praised us, blessed us, while still acknowledging that not everyone had a fair shake. To do otherwise would have made him look like an ass kisser, or totally ignorant of our history, for crying out loud.

I swear, the Pope comes here, makes the US out to be a country of hope, freedom, and generosity, and this is what you latch onto?

You don’t have opinions about world events?! Concerning the happenings inside and between other nations? You actually don’t discuss this stuff? Seriously?

I as a parent do that with my child ,as my parents did with me.

More thoughts on this…

Do you continually re-address circumstances that you’ve come to terms with your children? Five years later, do you remind your children what they did “bad?”

No, of course not.

Furthermore, do you think that if we forget our past, we will revisit it? Do you really think we’ll turn around one day and reap genocide on Native Americans? Enslave Black people again?

So, then, what is the point in dredging this back up? Guilt and shame.

And, of course, his prayer at Ground Zero.

O God of love, compassion, and healing,
look on us, people of many different faiths and traditions,
who gather today at this site,
the scene of incredible violence and pain.

We ask you in your goodness
to give eternal light and peace
to all who died here –
the heroic first-responders:
our fire fighters, police officers,
emergency service workers, and Port Authority personnel,
along with all the innocent men and women
who were victims of this tragedy
simply because their work or service
brought them here on September 11, 2001.

We ask you, in your compassion
to bring healing to those
who, because of their presence here that day,
suffer from injuries and illness.
Heal, too, the pain of still-grieving families
and all who lost loved ones in this tragedy.
Give them strength to continue their lives with courage and hope.

We are mindful as well
of those who suffered death, injury, and loss
on the same day at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Our hearts are one with theirs
as our prayer embraces their pain and suffering.

God of peace, bring your peace to our violent world:
peace in the hearts of all men and women
and peace among the nations of the earth.
Turn to your way of love
those whose hearts and minds
are consumed with hatred.

God of understanding,
overwhelmed by the magnitude of this tragedy,
we seek your light and guidance
as we confront such terrible events.
Grant that those whose lives were spared
may live so that the lives lost here
may not have been lost in vain.
Comfort and console us,
strengthen us in hope,
and give us the wisdom and courage
to work tirelessly for a world
where true peace and love reign
among nations and in the hearts of all.
What a bastard!

What would have been so wrong just to say something like “it’s great to be here with all God’s followers; thank you for coming out to see me.” Then add some prayer stuff.

That’s not ass kissing. No. He had to add some reason for people to feel bad about themselves… with the caveat that, through Jesus, you can be saved, blah, blah, blah.

And when do I go to Iran, Iraq or whatever country, talk in front of millions and the media, and tell them that their past is bad. Huh?

If a similar circumstance arises, where I see a potential pitfall to my childs’ welfare,I would most certainly bring it up.
“Do you remember when…well this may be a similar situation, think about it.”
I would be remiss as a parent if I didn’t.

And man is the only animal that trips over the same rock twice. What makes you think we’re all of a sudden exempt from our darker side?

Or, maybe just so one doesn’t look completely ignorant of our history when calling us a beacon of hope and freedom? In otherwords, “Yes, there have been terrible shortcomings. Slavery, the campaigns against Native Americans, etc. But, the US has been a pillar of hope for a better future.” Which is pretty much exactly what he said…That’s why he pointed out the that we are a people that hope for a better future. We look at our shortcomings and change them in the hope of a better future. That’s a compliment…Not a guilt trip. Not a shaming.

Okay first let me say I am not religious. But calling the pope a “charlatan” makes me lol. I hope you feel better. And how has America atones for anything we have ever done? We havent done shit for the indians except give them shitty land to live on.
Meanwhile our president runs around the world telling people what to do all the time. the pope is simply reminding people that America is not perfect (GASP!)so we dont get too big for our britches, which its too late for anyway.

ok i dont know why my shit showed up like that. i lose at intarwebz i guess.
