As have most of us. I only care if his lies affect us average people.
Bernie said white people don’t know what it’s like to be poor. That lie has a more profound affect than those I’ve heard Trump say. I.m.o. of course
I am not sure about the context of that quote.
Sounds like the context was that white people don’t know what it is like to have a combination of being poor, living in the ghetto, being discriminated against at the same rate, and having higher police interaction rates which lead to higher incarceration rates.
Fair enough but still offensive and not accurate.
I’d take a “ghetto” over a West Virginia cabin with no running water or electricity. Just me though.
The discrimination crap needs some serious context. The notion that that happens in a vacuum or rather “just because I’m black” is laughable.
People really need to examine these things more carefully and without a pre judgment.
Certain actions, mannerisms, behaviors, etc… Will attract attention from cops. Not to mention crime reporting has to be followed up on and cops look for suspects matching descriptions.
I think we tend to buy too much on face value
I had a couple roommates in college that were black, and how cops treated them was very different from how I was treated while standing right beside them.
Pretty shitty to hear over the scanner “suspect is a black male, 5’6” to 6’4", dark pants and a jacket"… And that is why your buddy is getting stopped and questioned while you both are walking to the gym on a Thursday night in february. Or why one of them got cuffed and put on the hood of s cop car, while I was the roommate the cops wanted to talk to regarding shutting the party down.
I understand cops are trying to do a damn difficult job. But my personal experience has showed that I am treated differently by the police because of skin color. And I think that is the point Bernie was trying to make.
I think it would be a lot shittier if a white male got stopped, given that description.
We just can’t win. No matter what we’re profiling or “racist.” Gets old.
Suspect descriptions are often wildly innacurrate or off by a few things. That’s why we’ll stop someone that matches one or two of the descriptions given. Eye witness accounts vary greatly at times too.
People really should exercise a little more objectivity here. Instead they just assume the worst about us.
I understand the cops were just doing their job the best they knew how. Ill will wasn’t necessarily intended. And everything went smoothly because my buddies werent stupid and disrespectful.
But, still, those are two instances where I have personally been in situations where my skin color gave me an advantage dealing with “the system/ the man”. So I am very inclined to believe friends with dark skin when they say it is an expected thing. And I understand the poiñt I think Bernie was so ineloquently trying to make.
Also, of course cops can never win! They are usually in s no win situation. If I have to deal with cops, something bad happened: I got in an accident, my car is stolen, I just got my face beaten and was robbed, etc. And that is cops helping me! Haha.
Totally thankless job.
Here’s a brief list. I feel bad for whoever has to compile these. All politicians lie it’s just a matter of the fact that the frequency of Trump is unheard of. We’re actually at a point with him where he will lie, later on get proven that it was a lie, and simply move towards what’s the big deal anyways.
Which to his supporters nothing he does is a big deal in my opinion.
They “profile” us too. As in assuming we’re stopping them simply for being black, which is just completely illogical.
We just have a very difficult task and armchair quarterbacks with zero experience or knowledge only hurt both sides. Not calling you an armchair QB btw
Trump promised better government healthcare than Obama. So it’s not just a leftist dream.
I’ll go ahead and take your word that he did. If so, the jury is still out, isn’t it?
I care about outcomes, not intention.
His bosses won’t let him do healthcare.
Coverage for all and cheaper yes. Wonder what he’s waiting for?
He also promised to repeal and replace Obamacare though in fairness an article from 3 years ago said he only made a statement about that 68 times. But I’m sure Republicans will have that done I mean they said repeal and replace since it passed so they are just trying to finalize a few key details. Any second now I bet.
Promised to eliminate the debt. I guess the jury’s still out though like you said.
From him: “We’re going to have insurance for everybody,” Trump [said] in an interview with The Washington Post. “There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.
“I am going to take care of everybody … Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.”
“I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid”
Why did the right elect a socialist who gave farmers billions and wants the government to run healthcare. I could have sworn that was a bad thing at one time for them.
GOP won the branding war decades ago. They call it subsidies instead of welfare.
People eat that shit up.
This by a mile.
The GOP is a helluva’ lot better at PR…
Of privately supporting things that publicly they say they do not…
Of riding the “gravy train” (of things like entitlements)…while blaming DEMS, liberals…you name it…for them…
Or as above, calling things like agricultural and/or business sector welfare “subsidies”.
Kudos to them! The DEMS need to hire their PR people.
Serious question:
Much like the question I asked about Environmental Protections (when some of most “out-doorsy” people I know are Conservative friends of mine…)
How did entitlements become a “liberal” issue, when conservatives probably benefit from them at similar rates? (Like in the rural areas @H_factor and others speak of?)
Tbh I think the biggest reason it’s a liberal issue is due to how good of a job they’ve done at stopping entitlement cuts
If it were me, and I was a Soros rule the world type, I’d let them tank entitlements once to play the long game.
Once the conservatives realized that poor rural people suffer from cognitive dissonance (at close to 100% rates) in regards to their position and receiving “subsidies” vs the position of inner city poor black people, then they knew they could propose cutting entitlements and it would not even register as a threat to their rural base, but as a positive of taking away from those lazy city people, and lowering taxes.
