POP! Goes the Democrat!

Brother, @thunderbolt23

Warren as President gives me an much anxiety as four more years of Trump.

God help us.

I am working on understanding her appeal because as it stands…I just don’t get it.

At least I understand the "Angry White People/We are the 300 under Liberal/Media/Government Siege/I’m one of YOU! " appeal of Trump. But Warren?

Again; I’m working on it.

“Entitlements” are 60% of the budget.
Interest is 10% of the budget.
Military (DOD, nuclear, additional fund for overseas, etc) is 21% of the budget.
Everything else is 9%.

Where would you like to start cutting?

It doesn’t me. She’s not a shyster. And while some of her plans are out there, they can’t get through Congress, so there would be a brake on her most ambitious proposals.

She’s a really smart, really idealistic politician who can speak genuine populism. That’s appealing in an age of a cynical, sleazy, policy-dumb, constant-scandal president who is a phony populist.

Go listen to her speeches - she’s actually pretty good. She speaks to “supper table” topics really well, as economics is in her wheelhouse. Liberals like her (obviously) but I think middle class, middle of the road voters also find appeal in her because she sounds like a fighter for them and who knows her stuff.

And think for a second who you’d hire for an important VP job in your company - the kinda overzealous, idealistic but smart and driven A student who thinks she can fix everything tomorrow? Or the lazy, dishonest, thin-skinned, incurious trust fund baby who can’t stop badmouthing other vendors or companies you work with?

Real world people get this distinction - they see this play out in their day to day. I think people are considering Warren for this reason.

Everywhere. Entitlements need massive reform. Not repeal, but reform. Defense would see it’s share of cuts as well.

This is most likely my problem, @thunderbolt23

I haven’t actually listened to her speak on a topic…while I am always “getting” Trump’s appeal on almost a daily basis because of 1) his incessant tweeting 2) the bully-pulpit that the Presidency provides and the fact that 3) he has never really gotten off of the campaign trail.

I don’t think anyone in here is saying it would be easy. Merely pointing out that the GOP has consistently made the importance of it a hallmark of their rhetoric…while they don’t have power.

Something is either an issue or it isn’t. It’s beyond clear to me the GOP’s stance on the debt is almost entirely dependent on the Dems being in charge. I mean it can’t be said enough that after 8 years of fits over the debt with Obama they picked a standard bearer who said it doesn’t matter.

Amazing, isn’t it?

The GOP didn’t pick him, he took over by slaughtering 16 of their best. That’s their fault btw. If only they had superdelegates and shared debate questions with the press like the DNC we could have had a Bush/Clinton rematch.

Like that would have mattered. I’ve never seen a clearer voter sent message in my life than 2016 Republicans rejecting nearly everything traditional GOP meant.

You don’t stop a slaughter (which is generous, let’s be honest, Trump could have given up 10 points in every state and it still would have been a slaughter) with shared debate questions (not saying they didn’t, they just didn’t get caught).

WTF was this?

The gaffe machine hard at work, that’s what

Trump Biden debates would be hilarious. Bugs, flushing the toilet 10,000 times lord knows what else.

He seems to be in onset of dementia, more than strictly gaffe prone.

I certainly am no mental health professional, but have seen that multi year slide into incoherence, in several family friends and relations.

Dementia is horrific.

Bloomberg is paying $6k/month for low level staffers. He has ground operations in 27 states and has already outspent the other frontrunners in ads.

He saw Trump steamroll through 16 hapless Republicans with analytics and bluster. His bona fides for Dems are way stronger than Trump’s were with Reps.

I thought it was just a stunt for him to run… but this cat is serious. I really hope we get to see him debate Biden.

This is further evidence to a theory I have had for a long time…

It’s good to be insanely rich.

This thread is a bit old, but a thought I have been having is that Bloomberg is going to cause an additional split in the moderate vote. I think Biden is done with Bloomberg coming into the race. Could be wrong. What are your thoughts guys?

It is looking more like it is going to be Bernie, but I have a terrible record of trying to predict these things. Bernie is only really splitting partially with Warren as a progressive. Biden has to battle with Pete, Bloomberg, Amy and to an extent partially Warren.

Certainly hurts the case that Biden is the go to “vote for me I’m a moderate who can beat Trump option.”

Primaries are so much about momentum that poor showings early can take someone from a front runner to nothing in a matter of a few days. Biden polls well enough nationally to think he wouldn’t be completely out of it, but Bloomberg doesn’t help him in the least bit. And Biden probably isn’t really exciting anyone to vote. I mentioned in another thread how most likely to beat the other team is often not how nominees win. Primaries are about getting your people out and that’s hard to do without some genuine excitement.

I think Bernie is vulnerable if the field shrinks but these early ones have had some close margins that look like the field won’t be rapidly shrinking anytime soon. I think this helps him out immensely.

Biden is a babbling loon that needs to be spoon fed and wrangled like a dementia patient lest he lead an army of fake John Wayne quotes against an onslaught of dog faced pony soldiers.

For real though. How about the white kid telling a blackish dude what a racist he is!?!

Cuz if they “don’t know their own best interests” then they must need a smarmy white kid to make sure that they do!

I will probably go to my grave not understanding the appeal of Bernie Sanders.

Oh well…
