You don’t think most of this is because of his rhetoric? I mean someone could do the things he wants to do and not be an awful person. Why wouldn’t you want that or demand it in the person who holds the highest office? Is offending the other side really that important to you?
As for open borders Trump is giving billions of dollars to farmers who employ them the most. He hasn’t built the wall even when he had majorities. Is it just because he talks about the issue with zero filter? He hasn’t really moved the needle. But hey billions towards the people who employ them the most is bound to work im sure.
Hell I would think a guy who doesn’t consider his words carefully would be the exact opposite of what we would want in a position where words matter.

Long story short. I was tired of the political process and people. (am tired)
I use to be a BIG George Bush supporter. Even when I knew that we invaded Iraq for oil (and Israel) I was totally on board! I put boots on the ground and for many years believed the hype.
But now I realize that that worldview is wrong. Why should we lose blood and treasure for some other nation’s wellbeing?
I saw DT’s talk about getting out of places militarily, being more nationalistic, and it appealed to me. As opposed to the globalism that was being pushed, even by republicans.
Like I said, I still see MANY faults in the man. But I find the difference in styles refreshing. I could care less if (insert NPC here) thinks he’s being (rude, whiney,racist, so on).
I’m also the son of a LEGAL immigrant to the U.S. So seeing someone address the border problem also appealed to my family.

I’ll be honest. I can get on board with this. I felt the exact same way about the Obamahate and nearly all of the Hillaryhate.
My sister in law’s in laws genuinely believed Obama to be the antichrist while he was in office. On order from my wife, ofc, I couldn’t be a dick about it. But she couldn’t stop me from busting up laughing every time it came up. That or the birth cert.
