I need to just bite the bullet and buy this damn PS3 already. The prices on TVs are incredible too. I just got back from Frys Electronics to find a 52" Sony Flat Screen LCD for 1299 I think it was. I know the economy sucks, but its also a great time to buy normally expensive shit.
See, now that pisses me off. My 50" was that much.

I paid almost double that for my 55" and mine was a floor model on closeout. This was 3 years ago though.
I guess its good to see that when this TV dies it won’t cost me as much to replace it.
Plus, as I said before, they for sure overproduced electronics in anticipation of a strong economy, so they are stuck with a back stock of inventory for a long time.
I really really want either a Samsung TOC (plasma, because I think the colors are WAY nicer than LCD and the colors don’t fade with off-angle viewing) or a Pioneer KURO.
But I hear the Panasonics are just as good as the Pioneers at over a grand less.

The only big downside is the mind-numbing slowness of the download speeds. It took me 2.5 - 3 hours to download a 950mb demo of WWF last night.
That’s gotta be your ethernet or router or broadband provider, not the PS. System updates seem to be the slowest, but even those shouldn’t take much more than ten minutes total.

So I went out and bought a PS3 Sunday. I didn’t get it so much for the gaming as I did as a replacement BR player - and it is a great BR player.
But then I got to messing around on it, and found the play station network thingy. I created my character, went to the mall, and all that stuff - but I can’t talk to anyone because it takes me forever to type on the onscreen keyboard.
So here are a few of my questions about interacting in Play Station’s cyber community:
Do you have to buy Sony’s keyboard, or can you use regular wireless keyboard?
What about the headset? Can I use my bluetooth headset i got for my cellphone, or do I need Sony’s bluetooth headset?
Do have to attain a certain level before you can enter certain stores? I notice that some users have their screen names in red - and mine is not.
How do you search for clubs? It only pulls up exact matches, and I wold like to browse through some of the clubs just to see what is going on.
I think the cyber community is a cool idea, but I have no clue what I am doing.

Alright you need a usb keyboard and mouse. Most bluetooths work. I can’t answer your last two questions but here you go.

That’s been a complaint about the PS Network for some time - not just me.
I don’t think it is an ISP or router issue because I have two computers on the same router and their speed is quite acceptable.
The 360 is also hooked to it sometimes, and there is no problem with its speed whatsoever.
Nope - I think it is the server on Sony’s end that is causing the problem.

I have to agree. Their network is very slow. I use a wired connection and it sometimes takes hours to download demos that only take 10 minutes or so on my 360. My 360 is connected through the same router, so I would think that would show that it’s not anything on my end.
RJ, your PS3 can see your ENTIRE itunes library? Like even Apple’s proprietary AAC format?
My 360 is a ‘media extender’, but I’ll be damned if it can see anything outside of WMA or MP3 as far as songs go. I want it to play Apple’s format though. Not sure how to make it do that, if you can.

No. I can’t see anything from iTunes that is either proprietary, or has that damn DRM crap on it. Like all the stuff I bought from the iTunes store can’t be copied straight out of iTunes.
I just copied all of my mp3’s onto a thumb drive and transferred the songs manually to the PS3’s hdd.
You can’t run iTunes on the ps3 - well, I don’t know of a way you can without modding the machine.
Can’t wait till they come down in price a little too. I love my Xbox360 but still have always had great sucess with Playstation 1 & 2, you really can’t beat the sony line for RPG’s either (though morrowind fekin ruled).
