What you do NOT mention however is that mobility between the income quintiles is as high as ever in the US.

The middle class here in America is not shrinking in number, nor is their lifestyle worsening. Far from it, in fact. There are already very few truly poor people here, and their numbers are not growing significantly, if at all.
