Phlegms' Beginner Log

Few power racks, couple of cages, glute ham, bunch of plate loaded machines (the Single arm row one is great), usuall array of cable shit, dumbbells up to 60kg+, tonnes of bars, a few bumper plates, sprinting track and various bits of strong man equipment. I train here a few times a week cos’ my college gym is shit. [/quote]

Pretty awesome sounding. I know where to go if I ever visit Ireland. Overall my uni gym has decent equipment, most of the HS-style stuff is awesome, perhaps 2/3 of the “machines” are decent. Missing GHR, reverse hyper, hack squat, power squat, seated calf, strongman equipment etc, but I suppose most places don’t have these, really the only thing that has messed it up is because they went with the “technogym” brand theres no olympic plates and what we have falls apart. Overall, no biggie, if I live Leeds in the future I might go train at Andy Boltons gym.

Dude thanks for the explanation and videos, pretty awesome. Might have to start including some of these… Your 90kg complex looked great!

Nice shoes!

Do you plan to compete one day or is the Oly-lifting just for fun?

Ha cheers! I will compete soon enough, probably within the next 4-5 months or so. Just waiting to get my numbers up first!

Much appreciated! I’m really liking them at the moment as a way to get some decent work in when I have a limited amount of time. If I have the time for a 2 hour session I still prefer to do a bunch of singles with cleans and snatches working as close to my max as possible followed by some moderate accessory work like squats and back work, but if I need to keep the session around the 40 minute mark these help me get a bunch of volume covered in a short amount of time. All kinds of win really!

24th March:

A. Front Squats:
60kgx10
80kgx5
100kgx5
110kgx3
120kgx1
125kgx2 (Blehhhhh, wayyyy harder than it should of been)
125kgx1 (Da fuark?)
115kgx5

B. Oly Complex:
x2 clean pulls, x1 squat clean, x1 5ct pause front squat, x1 Jerk
60kgx1
70kgx1
80kgx1
90kgx1
95kgx1 (+2.5kg PR, Jerk felt like shit)

C. Pendlays:
60kgx10
80kgx3
90kgx3
100kgx1
105kgx2 x5 sets (+2.5kg PR, Belt for last 2 sets, no straps.)

Notes:
Meh session. Front squats felt like poop so I called them early rather than trying to chase some sort of arbitrary PR. Complexes felt aight’ I guess, Jerk didn’t feel too solid on the 95kg complex but I’ll take the PR. Pendlays were feeling decent enough. Low carbs is starting to get the better of me, even with Jacked I felt sluggish as shit. Weighed 76.8kg this morning though so the weight is still slowly but surely coming off. I figure I have another 2 weeks left of this stupid fucking diet left until I’ll be where I want to be and I’ll start slowly upping the carbs. #getshreddedordiemirin

70kgx1 x2

105kgx1 (Just missed jerk)

B. Snatches:
barxmany
40kgx1 x5
50kgx1 x5
60kgx1
65kgx1
70kgx1
72.5kgx1 (+5kg PR)

60kgx5
100kgx5
110kgx3
120kgx1

Quoted for the absolute truth. Kilograms are the superior way of measuring things, they sound way heavier and less flashy than american pounds.

They look prettier as well 180 kg > 397 lbs, but I consider translating a public service since I imagine Americans don’t know kilograms.

Don’t give in, show solidarity with the European brethren and eventually the yanks will give in allowing the imperial system to reign supreme.

That would show them! And save me some time changing unit of measure. I’ll do it!

I appreciate this. All I’m saying is kilograms is what they use in olympic weightlifting
