I don’t get this reference.
ZeCarlo, who else on here could qualify to be named BigZ?
I don’t think he likes anybody, but occasionally our world views align.

So now that we are all aware the real villains of healthcare costs are healthcare providers themselves, and that the US health insurance system sees customers pay a lower percentage out of pocket for care than other wealthy nations with socialized healthcare in place, and we know the shooter left clues for two apparent motives:
- Dissatisfaction over claims and/or service processing
- Disdain for corporations in general, specifically monopolistic practices.
United provides physical care via home health alongside insurance services, and he was apparently upset by how they treated his dying grandfather. I haven’t been able to find info. on whether or not it was specifically related to insurance paying a 3rd party or if it was United’s direct care itself, but it probably doesn’t matter. There was likely an incident not contractually covered that set Luigi off.
In any case, he’s evidently a brilliant guy who viewed the unabomber as a hero and had a bend towards violence against business practices he ironically didn’t like.
He also seemed to love monopoly. He had
the monopoly money in his backpack, was caught at a McDonalds (the monopoly game) in Altoona PA, home of the railroad.
Allegedly he left a countdown clock saying something along the lines of “if you’re reading this, I’m already arrested but everything is already in motion” or something similar.
I believe 12/11 was the next date of significance on his clock.
So what is the speculation here? Is there a group involved? Is he a halfway competent mastermind who got a pistol to work after jamming it - with a suppressor on a 9mm pistol (not serving its purpose at all in the context)? Does he have bombs lined up? A series of messages to take advantage of his 15 minutes of fame, evangelizing all of us to progressive ideology - despite contrary data around talking points?
An English Lit reading circle mass invitation?
My guess- Onset of schizophrenia. He’s right in the wheelhouse agewise.
Mind you, and as my sister has proven many times, smart doesn’t preclude crazy, nor does crazy preclude smart.
One can be a very bright and relatively functioning person going about their day and appearing normal while living in a whole completely different world right next to you.
For the sure. The Unabomber was weird smart. I think a lot of crazy people are. There’s smart, and then there’s understanding, processing and operating on another level smart. Outside the lines, for better or worse.
There are a few leftists rags I like to check at least once a week or so to see what is being said, and Alternet never disappoints. It’s actually the only other internet site I ever posted on besides here, way back in my 20’s and early 30’s. The posts are still there if anyone wants to see what liberal me was thinking back then.
Anyway, this morning I learned that the alleged killer is a really swell guy. He had a problem with back pain, but not enough of a problem to stop him from rock climbing or surfing.
He seems like a pretty smart guy, too, but he’s no Ted Kaczynski. I think @jshaving is correct and he will likely get plenty of letters from adoring fans while he’s in prison.
I’m reading he suffered some sort of back injury that has led to chronic pain and made much of the activities he used to do impossible. Family hadn’t heard from him in a while and were worried about him.
Also, and maybe he’s just dumb, but that maybe he wanted to be caught. He literally kept a manifesto and his gun on him for days after committing the murder. “What, no, this isn’t a manifesto! It’s just my diary!”
The back injury is interesting. It seems more and more plausible this was a personal thing for him, and a temper tantrum for sure. He folded in to a bigger narrative for grandiosity.
He’s a stereotypical rich kid used to getting what he wants, suffered an injury with consequence outside of his control and misdirected his anger over all of it at a CEO of an insurance company. His grandpa dying was icing on the cake.
And not a peep about the actual cost of care he may or may not have been concerned about.
Anecdotally, when I crashed the motorcycle and was “medically transported” to a hospital, it turned out that while the hospital itself was in network of my policy, the responding team on staff that day were not. So insurance, per the network I agreed to when I signed up, offset the cost of the hospital stay itself, but I got a bill the size of a mortgage for the services.
In reality, I wasn’t conscious to have a conversation about treatment decisions, and wouldn’t have asked for another transport anyways as I was in and out of life, but as a principle it would be nice for providers to let you know whether or not they’re in network prior to giving care when they do have time to check. Sometimes they do, often times they don’t.
But who should I have been mad at? The insurance company who held up their end of the bargain or the surgeon who charged me a few corvettes for half a day of his time providing life saving care?
Or the guy who ran me off the road and kept driving to begin with?
Who are these providers? You need to define the terms you’re using.
But the real villain is the dead guy. His actions had nothing to do with costs or providers; they were all about greed. It’s strange how you want to give a criminal a pass.
And no, I’m not glad he’s dead or believe it was right to exterminate him, but you do reap what you sow, so act accordingly.
Yourself for having shitty insurance.
Do you know what a healthcare provider is?
You’re still missing the boat and I’m not interested in one of your mousetrap tangents.
Best available.
More evidence you don’t understand how insurance, or the medical system work.
Go read Shakespeare and remember how to think.
But, you’re getting it. Insurance isn’t an unlimited pot of money, it has limitations.
Good job. I knew you could do it!
.
When I hear back pain, I hear pain pills.
Do you? Is it a hospital or the doctor?
Really? What inspired this thread?
Mine is better.
You seem to be obsessed with this. How are you hoping I will react to these allusions? You obviously want to trigger me or something but in case you haven’t noticed, it isn’t working. You’re trying way too hard. Just accept the fact you are not particularly interesting nor charming, you have a bland personality and lack a sense of humor. You are exceptionally boring, so you are good at something. Trying to trigger me just isn’t your forte.
More of the weak society, looking for someone to blame and relying on the system to stop your pain.
As I wright that I think of the late, Big Lenny……
I can assure you, I’m not trying to trigger you. More like being dismissive of your bullshit.
But I think you’ve missed the sarcasm all along, so.
It’s both.
Please refer to the Google search feature.
I’m not going to define a glossary of industry terms for you because you’re trying too hard to erroneously pigeonhole a point where you’ve lost the ball, again.
I also don’t see a point in continuing this conversation with you until you’ve remediated your deficiencies.
