Last week I had some interesting workouts, I was minding my own business running on the treadmill when some kid comes up to me and starts trying to talk to me. I can’t really hear him because the music is up pretty loud and it’s hard to focus on him when I just want to get my mile in. I try to ignore him in hopes that he’ll just go away, didn’t really want a confrontation or anything, but he just keeps standing there trying to get my attention.
It got so bad that he actually reached out and grabbed my hand while I was jogging. I was like WTF is this shit? He just looked at me and kept talking, so I talked with him for a couple minutes and then asked him if he could leave me alone. He leaves while I finish up my cardio. Then a little while later I’m getting ready to do some incline presses. I start getting my dumbbells and as soon as I turn around this kid is just sitting on my bench hanging out.
Now, I’m starting to get a little annoyed with him. I just want to get my workout done and get some dinner. Well, I talk to him and ask him to move since I’m getting ready to use the bench, no problem he leaves again. Now, I’m about half way through my inclines and he comes back over like he owns the place and this time he’s got a girl with him. I’m just thinking, “Oh, come on, you’ve got to be kidding me. Can’t I just workout in peace?” Well, luckily I’m a man known for my patience. I listen to them talk for a couple minutes and let them know, I’ll talk to them, but not during my sets, it’s going to have to wait until in between lifting.
They agree and hang out for a few minutes. I swear they have no attention span though because they just kept talking to me and expecting me to answer every time I was lifting. After about 10 minutes of this I decided that was enough and sent them on their way again. Now I’m nearing the end of my workout and they’re back… I swear it’s like they knew exactly where I would be and when. They must have been stalking me for weeks, it’s just crazy. They come back up to me asking me all sorts of non gym related questions. I mean crazy things, like “when’s dinner going to be ready?” “Can we have ramen noodles?” I don’t know how much longer I can take working out at this gym. I mean, I’m going to have to start locking the garage door or something before workouts…

lololololololololololol
I’m working in a gym and there’s this guy, early 30s, he sure has some mental problems, but nothing too heavy. He always comes twice a day at the gym, the second time to log in his reps and weights on his program sheet (why the fuck doesn’t he do it the first time?). My main problem with the dude is that he talks loud and makes people uncomfortable, because he tries to be polite and everything but he’s loud and get’s into peoples personal space and intimacy, like he talks to ladies in the gym about their form and everything, when they didn’t ask for anything and I can see they aren’t comfortable with him talking to them like he knew them.
The thing is I don’t really want to confront him about his behavior, because quite frankly he’s not doing anything wrong, and I don’t want to sound rude or anything, but it just gets weird.

Honestly, I’d just keep lifting

Ha that was awesome
There was a new bloke at the gym last night and he would do a set of whatever on the bench, leave his jacket over it with db’s on and then use his rest (5 mins approx) to go to the other side of the gym to watch tennis on the tv!
I’m used to the usual retarded goings on around here but this is a new one on me

Lol! You had me really getting intrigued, I found myself progressively leaning in closer to the screen as I read your post haha
Ohh there’s also this VERY old guy who is quite skinny and lanky. About 6’4", 160ish I’d assume. And he’s ALWAYS half benching 95 lbs.
That doesn’t seem too weird, considering he’s quite old and not muscular. But the first time I’ve seen this dude was my first few weeks Freshmen year of college. I’ll be a senior this upcoming semester. And I’ve still ONLY seen the dude half bench 95 lbs for 3-5 reps, lay down between sets and breathe EXTREMELY heavy.
Like I think it’s great he gets in the gym and is kind of active at all, but damn, even if he had just added 10 lbs over the last 2-3 years. lol

Kind of like the girls who run a few miles every couple days, at the same pace for years on end, and think they’re accomplishing something.

Honestly, for something like this, I’d let them handle this situation themselves. They’re big girls and can take care of themselves. They should have enough social skill/social awareness to be able to politely communicate, without offending, either verbally or non verbally, that he needs to ease off a bit; it’s not that hard. If he was stalking them, that’s another story.

Is he very old? There comes a point where staying the same is a progress of sorts
The old place I went to had 2 100 lbs plates by the leg press. That is the only time I’ve seen those in person lol
My gym has 6 100 lbers for the leg press.
Dumbbells go up to 120lbs
power rack
allowed to deadlift
basically serious and non serious sections so everybody in comfortable
We need more members. I have the best overall physique there. Some guys are very close. Yes, I know it’s not saying much. I’m also a single dad with a full time job. Not that anyone cares, but the only supplementation I use is whey isolate, fish oil, CoQ10, and zma.

If you were HolyMac this story would have ended with MMF at your place.
Gym I used to go to had two awesome characters there rain hail or shine.
One guy in his 60’s just doing weights to stay healthy, completely normal except he wore quite long singlets and incredibly short shorts. To the point where you could never be completely certain he was wearing shorts at all. Really unnerving expecting old-man penis to shock you at any point.
Other dude was a bit older too, dressed like some sort of soldier of fortune, army pants tucked into army boots and all. He’d bring a no-name 2L bottle of cola in with him like he desperately needed the sugar to fuel his furious workouts or something. Then he’d proceed to get the smith machine or something close by and sit there watching everyone for an hour or two. He’d do four or five sets of weights tops in about 2 hours. Creepy, creepy man.

I think I may have posted this story in another thread but one morning (around 6:45am, it’s just me and some professors working out) when I was finishing up a back workout with some trap bar deads with the bar maxed out (realllly small bar, only 445 on it and it was starting to bend) the student worker at the front desk is walking around and yells at me for not politely lifting quietly and tells me to STOP as loud as he can.
I was making a bit more noise than usual this time but I politely told him to fuck off because I was out of breath and in the zone. So he goes and gets his boss (nice lady athletic director who I’m very good friends with) and informs her of my doings. To which she gives him a look and then just walks away telling him to leave me alone.

with the same people involved…
LOL believe me, I’m probably just as douchey looking. Almost always wear a string tank and snapback to the gym, and grunt if something’s heavy lol. So I know not to judge a book by it’s cover, because I feel I’m not to much of a tool. lol But I’ve learned a lot of patience dealing with people like that, because I’m an RA in the dorms at my university lol.
Do you dress like an idiot for any particular reason?
LOL
Most of the time my hear is really messy when I hit the gym, and I sweat horribly and it’s slightly less embarrassing when I’m not sweating through a t-shirt and looks like I just went swimming. lol
If it makes you feel better the string tanks usually have superhero, Pokemon, Power Ranger, or Thundercat item/logo/character on them
No more idiotic than anyone else in a uni gym. Some of the guys I lift with go with bright-coloured compression shorts and headbands, so it could be worse. I probably look pretty douchey too. Cut-offs, board shorts, and tattoos…
