Peggy Noonan on Rectitude Chic

I will confess that even though I am solidly on the Left, I love reading Peggy Noonan:

I wish I could share the old dowager’s optimism on a return to national shame, but the insular financio-political class got off scot-free for their involvement in creating the housing bubble and mortgage mess that ballooned into 60 trillion worth of funny munny worldwide.

I am not sure she thinks there will be any REAL shame. However, there will be the simulacra of Shame. Shame goest to Disneyland.

Peggy Noonan should be dragged through the streets by her hair until she is dead.

I don’t find much predictive value in her columns either. She doesn’t have the knack for spotting trends like an ex-marketing guy like Steve Sailer and is perpetually trapped in her romanticized version of Gipperism, which ended a long time ago and isn’t coming back. At least she’s pleasant. That’s more than we can say for most political pundits nowadays.

“Simulacra of shame”. Nice turn of phrase. Yours?

Yes.

I don’t always agree with the content (I did in this case, though), but I think she’s a pretty good writer. Why do you dislike her so much?

I have never liked her.

I don’t have any use for the insider-type people. I have even less use for the “intellectual” insiders.

She wouldn’t know conservatism if it bit her on the ass, yet she gets face time whenever she wants it.

Peggy Noonan represents the East Coast “coastal elite” brand of conservatism-in-name-only, sort of like Andrew Sullivan, before he completely jumped the shark.
