he made a hard late slide into walker. he beat up the boston groundskeeper with blows and cleats (this is not a he said/she said… the police were there). he intentionally assaulted two different people who had nothing to do with the beanball.
if clemens can pitch to manny face level by “mistake”, then why can’t pedro bitch to garcia’s head by “mistake”. if you give “the rocket” the benefit of the doubt, give “the best” the benefit of the doubt as well.
the boston.com video clearly shows zimmer making a bee line toward pedro. he is a fucking idiot. he tried to take out pedro with left hook and with his momentum. by the time zimmer was swinging, pedro did not have a chance to “hold him at bay” or “run circles around him”. This assault was less than a yard and a second away from him. I’m surprised Pedro reacted as quickly as he did without breaking zimmer’s fucking skull. if pedro wanted to he could have disabled the man on the spot.
if pedro is a douche bag for headhunting garcia, then EVERY FUCKING pitcher is a douche bag as well. if pedro is a douche bag for taking zimmer down, then zimmer is a 250-lb (whatver he weighs) pile of shit for rushing him.
now mayor bloomberg says pedro should be arrested for defending himself? nigga please!
danh: Pedro hit Garcia. Clemens threw a ball over the plate but high. Not even close. If he wanted to hit Manny, he would have. Throwing inside is part of the game in order to keep hitters off balance. Guess what? It worked, as evidenced by Manny’s hamster-armed swing on strike 3, and the way Clemens dominated from that point on.
The reason why Pedro threw at Garcia is because he had horrible stuff that day and he was frustrated that the Yankee hitters were touching him up.
pedro is looking bad because of three incidents that took place in one inning 1) the beanball, 2) the threats to the bench, and 3) the zimmer throwdown. for viewers, it’s easy to lump together all three incidents and immediately have an unfavorable opinion of pedro. however, when each incident is isolated and analyzed independently, it’s clear that there’s only one incident where pedro fucked up royally: the beanball. (posada and others were talking shit to pedro as well when he threatened to hit them on the head, all that was after Garcia took his aggression out on walker; zimmer already apologized for his behavior, thus indirectly taking responsibility for the contact between the two).
i agree that pedro’s pitch was most likely intentional.
however, i mentioned earlier in the thread that clemens had hit piazza in the head a couple of years back. was that intentional? since clemen’s aim is darn good, it’s safe to say that it was as well.
my argument is if pedro is called a douche bag for hitting garcia then clemens and every other pitcher who’s beaned someone is also a douche bag, unless you give them ALL the benefit of the doubt that it was accidental. if all pitchers are douchebags, then it’s wrong to single out pedro for something that happened during a game with above-average ratings.
all, i really don’t understand how this line of reasoning makes me a 5th grader.
i tend to think one-line name-calling is the kind of stuff 5th graders do.
Pedro’s a tool, escalated the entire thing because he was getting cranked. Someone checkout peter gammons column from monday night. Theres a nice quote from an Boston pitcher basically saying that when pedro loses his stuff and gets frustrated he starts throwing at people and the team is sick and tired of having to deal with it. As for my evidence on why Pedro is a tool, perhaps its not your logic that bears mentioning, but your reading comprehension skills…if you had read the entire thread you would notice that I already gave my responses and rationale earlier up.
There are about 5 mets fans who think that Clemens intentionally threw at Pizza’s head. The rest, including the most knowledgeable members for the NY sports media, all think it was accidental. Comparing the two is unwarranted.
I can’t believe you are still talking about the cat stampede.
Thanks Ignorant Slut…I am glad you see the light as well.
Baseball should be embarrassed. Only in Sumo Wrestling do you see more overweight and un-athletic individuals. Sure some of them have talent and are athletes but if it weren’t for baseball they would be nailing down a roof, swinging a sledge hammer, tenderizing meet or with the county fair running the stand that you knock down the bottles with the baseball.
Notice how the highlights are always someone farting around in the dugout, a bench clearing group hug…oh, I mean pile-on, or a 20 foot sprint and a diving catch (just doesn’t look all that tough).
Conclusion Baseball…not a T-Sport!!! Neither is Tennis - just incase you want to start that thread.
Baseball, Soccer, Football, basketball, Wrestling, Boxing, Surf, Snowboard, Wakeboard, Golf and yes Tennis (Golf and Tennis are good business recreations)
like ike: that’s just what people who have never played the game have to say. Most of the top players are in damn good shape. The only fat slobs are older pitchers and DH’s. And are you telling me that it doesn’t take high T levels to stay in the box against a 95-100 mph heater? Or coming into a playoff game in the 8th when the whole stadium is chanting “we want Nelson.” It takes balls to strike people out with 60,000 telling you how much of a pussy you are.
Lol @ the Internet tough guys coming down on Pedro.
Pedro handled the situation perfectly. Some crazy old man was attacking him and Pedro just stood to the side and basically let the old guy’s own momentum take him to the ground. Every single person putting Pedro down would have done the same. I bet a lot of the naysayers would have had their butts handed to them by the old man.
Zimmerman deserved a beat down but got lucky that Pedro was merciful. Martinez should have given the old guy a few stomps on the face with his cleats.
I don’t know or care what Pedro has done before. In the situation where Zimmerman attacked he handled it perfectly. Pedro did not use excessive force to end the confrontation. He also made Zimmerman look like a tool.
Just because Zimmerman is old it doesn’t mean that he cannot be held accountable for his actions. If an old man wants to mix it up he should also accept the possible beat down. The same thing goes for any person (man, women and child).
If an old man, women or a little child want to play with the big boys then they also must accept the consequences of their actions.
Not defending yourself against someone you consider weaker (old man, women, child) can get you killed.
molsonman: It’s hard to take someone seriously when they talk about baseball and repeatedly refer to Don Zimmer as “Zimmerman.” He’s been a part of MLB for 50 years. But I agree, the Yankee players should have gone after Pedro, not their 72 yr old coach.
You’re missing the point. I’m actually rooting for the Sox, and looking back at the situation I don’t think Pedro’s takedown move was all that bad. Again, you’re right he shouldn’t have charged Pedro and he got what he had coming. It’s just a bad thing to see someone that old get punked like that. The reason why people are coming down on Pedro is because he’s the one who precipitated everything by throwing at Garcia. It was unprovoked and selfish. He put his team’s chances of winning in jeopardy and it was nothing more than a temper tantrum. His own teammates are getting sick of him throwing at people just because he’s having an off day and people are hitting his pitches. It’s an unwritten rule in baseball that it’s ok for pitchers to hit batters if they’re protecting their teammates. There’s a huge difference here because if anyone has a right to throw at someone, it’s the Yankees. Pedro has hit and injured a few of their players. You don’t throw at people just because they’re hitting your pitches. That’s what makes him a pussy. He’s also protected by being in the AL. If Pedro were pitching in the NL, he would think twice about beaning people because he would have to bat.
Molsonman…again, Pedro is a pussy for everything that came before the take down of Zim…basically everything that is said here

How about those comments by the former yankees on Pedro and Manny…I am laughing my ass off. If you havent seen it here they are
