Pedro Martinez

Pedro started all of it because he, like the little bitch that he is, was upset that the Yanks were hitting him. So he throws at Garcia. No question about it. Then he starts talking shit to the Yankee dugout, including Posada and Don Zimmer.

Here’s the thing: It was only a matter of time before Clemens threw at someone, but unlike Pedro, he was waiting until they had the game in hand. Pedro threw at Garcia with runners on. That’s stupid and hurting your team. He’s lucky Varitek caught the ball. The difference here is that Clemens DID NOT throw at Manny. It wasn’t even close, in fact it was over the plate but high. Manny was just being a pussy and bailing on every pitch because he went to the plate expecting to get hit. He closed his eyes on that pitch for Christ’s sakes, how could he even tell where it was? He was clearly afraid of the rocket, as evidenced by the pathetic swing he put on the third strike of that at bat.

I want to root for the Sox here, but they’re making it hard. Grady Little is a robot, “Duh, I know Pedro wouldn’t ever throw at anyone on purpose” yeah right. Nomar is like 0 for the postseason, Manny is a selfish lazy primadonna, Pedro’s a bitch. If I were a hardcore Sox fan I would be embarassed that the Yanks came into my house and won on straight fear. After the incident, the Red Sox hitters went to the plate tense and afraid to lean into any pitches from Clemens. What a way to go out for him.

As for the Don Zimmer thing, I bet Pedro feels like a piece of shit for doing it. Zimmer is from a different era where going after the guy who started it is what you do. Can you believe that nobody else on the whole Yankee bench went after Pedro? That was just a bad thing no matter which way you look at it. You hate to see an old man getting face planted, but he did charge Pedro. I think Pedro was just shocked that he actually wanted some. At first I couldn’t believe he dropped him, but what do you want him to do? You have a right to defend yourself. It just sucks to see an old man losing his dignity like that.

FTR, I disagree with 99.9% of the things Tim McCarver says. I’m ambivalent about the rest. So there you go. I also don’t hate the Red Sox or worship the Yankees. There you go again.

I repeat: I don’t think Manny knows how to make his own bed. If he isn’t the dumbest human being ever, society is in big trouble.

the best part is the loss…I love to see the Red Sox suffer. It’s the funniest thing in sports. An idiotic bunch of fans rooting for an idiotic bunch of players, I love it! Forever in 2nd place…that must really suck, ha ha ha…

And all of you attacking Pedro…

Two yankees players beat up a groundsworker so bad he had to go to the hospital. That’s class…

Pedro is an asshole, and could have easily side stepped/run circles around Zimmer’s fat old ass. If he did so everyone would have seen that Zimmer was the bad guy/he would have looked like an old derranged jag-off. I had an oldman try to tell me I was under arrest once because he saw me rolling a blunt. I laughed at him and he got all pissed off and tried to go after me. I easily avoided him and no harm was done. What was I gonna do slam him to the ground and fuck him up. NO! Furthermore I definitely wouldn’t have done that in front of millions of people.

Pedro Martinez’ throwing at a hitter is as old as baseball itself. Nowadays with so many rules in favor of the hitter, additionally the huge advantage hitters have in wearing armor enables them to risk practically hugging the plate. Some in fact do. In the old days ballplayers accepted this as part of th egame and would retaliate accordingly, only without the childish display of “staring” at the pitcher, mouthing off, or rushing the mound (though it did happen sometimes).

I recall Pedro explaining how early in his career he attemtped several approaches to pitching. “I tried pitching outside, didnt work. High, didnt work, low, didnt work. Inside, that works.” Especially in today’s game pitchers have so little, if any, advantages beaning is becoming more frequently the recourse. Its more a psychological tactic rather than simply a physical attack. You’ll notice after that beanball not single runner crossed the plate on Pedro the rest of the game.

Sometimes this work, sometimes not. This approach divides the hitters mind, thusly giving the hitter something else to concern himself with ohter than slamming it over the wall and strutting around the sacks. As a side note to all this rushing the mound approach, Ty Cobb, who is demonized as the meanest man in basebal lhistory, never once rushed the mound from a beanball. The closest he came to this was from being nailed in the ribs from bigtime head-hunter Carl Mays. On this occasion Cobb threw his bat toward the mound but no altercation insued.

for those who are interested, go to boston.com for a different camera angle of the incident, its on the front page. A better view of Zimmer rushing pedro.

Pedro didn’t really “throw Zimmer to the ground.” He basically gave him an “ole” move and then Zimmer’s momentum carried him to the ground. I was watching the game, and I have seen replays ad nauseum, from every angle, on every station.

Which isn’t to say that Pedro isn’t a spoiled prima donna who bitches all the time and whines and whimpers. He is. But he wasn’t at fault for the Zimmer thing. He basically side stepped and the old man fell down.

As to Manny being stupid: He is. He’s a damn good hitter, and a good player when he wants to be, but he’s about as dumb as a brick. You should be up here and see all the dumb things he does throughout the season. They had a saying about him back when he was in Cleveland: “Manny is too dumb to be cocky.” Here they’ve taken to saying “that’s just Manny being Manny,” which basically means what he has done is so inexplicably stupid that no one can come up with a good explanation for it. Luckily for him, he has physical skills that people will pay him millions of dollars a year to see – otherwise he would be stuck making minimum at some low-candle-power job.

But that said, most pro athletes aren’t MENSA candidats, and Manny hits the hell out of the ball. If Sox management can put up with his “being Manny” and wants to pay him a bundle, by all means, let them do it. He definitely produces on the offensive side.

And, as a final note, the people talking about Pedro and giving him crap for sidestepping Zimmer should definitely look into the incident where the Yankee relief pitcher and outfielder jumped the groundskeeper and kicked him in the head for cheering for the Sox.

BB- is that what happened in the bullpen? I watched sportscenter last night, but nothing was explained.

As far as Pedro goes, if I was him, I would’ve avoided contact, period. BUT, Zimmer did go after him, not the other way around. Zimmer is 72. He should know better.

Ok if I missed it oh well…The Rocket didn’t even come close to hitting Manny. It was a high but not near him Pedro was walking out to the Yankees anyway he should have just kept his ass on the beanch… What about the other fight in the bullpin with a grounds keeper didn’t really hear much about it but they said charges might be pending.

Pedro is a pussy

The bottom line is that Pedro intentionally threw at a batter’s head (an open base, with a left hander up, and a right handed batter who is hitting .000 thus far, 9 hitter…sets up the force play or a DP ball, pitching poorly thus far that inning with 14 out of 16 pitches being curve balls because they are catching up with your fast ball…the evidence is pretty obvious). He then sits there pointing to his head and mouthing “i’ll hit you in the fucking head”… Clemens, doesnt have a reputation of aiming for peoples head, hitting batters and aiming for their head is completely different. 95% of the most diehard Mets fan would admit that his shot to Piazza was more likely than not, unintentional.

As for the bullpen person, what not one person has yet mentioned is the fact that THIS PERSON HAS ALREADY GOTTEN INTO AN ALTERCATION WITH NELSON IN 1999… IN THE PLAYOFFS…common sense dictates that he shouldnt still be working at Fenway park, and that anything he does is going to be met with obvious reprucussions by Nelson. It shows the stupidity of the Red Sox organsization that this ground worker was still on the payroll with his prior history

Bottom line Pedro is 100 pound pussy, and the 25th man on the yankees should have been their to rip his arms out of his sockets and beat him with his own arms.

The problem with Pedro’s pitch to Garcia was that, as I said, he threw the ball behind him. That is incredibly dangerous. No one’s saying he can’t pitch up and in. Part of the game, yes. Throwing behind a hitter isn’t. As you saw, Garcia could have taken the ball in the neck or the back of the head. Not good. You’re not very smart if you don’t recognize the distinction being made here.

pedro didn’t do an ‘ole’…my ass…if you’re watching you see that he GRABS Zim by the HEAD and twists him so he hits the ground head first! you call that stepping aside? good god…ole…please.

Pedro is a total ass and Manny is blind. and it wasn’t a good idea for Zim to rush Pedro either.

Most baseball players are pussies. That is why they play baseball.

If Pedro would have run he would have been more a pussy. I doubt any of you guys would have run if you were in his situation.

Pedro and Roger are both jack-asses.

Hitting batters is part of the game. That’s fine I can deal with that. Throwing above the shoulders is a dick-move. That’s what makes these guys asses. The Cubs have 2 pitchers who are known for hitting batters, but they do it within the unspoken rules of the game.

I really don’t care that Pedro threw Zim to the ground, that’s really not the issue. From what I understand the ol’ guy has a metal plate in his head from being hit by a pitch so I guess he has personal problem with headhunters.

Was the metal plate from a few years ago when Zim took a foul ball in the head?

Pedro gets fined 50 grand and Manny 25. How the hell do you get fined that much and not get tossed? Rob Dibble gave a bullshit explanation on ESPN radio, saying that the umpires didn’t want to hurt the Red Sox chances by taking out two of their best players. Even Tim McClelland, the 3rd base umpire admitted that they would have been tossed in a regular season game. Fuck that. You throw behind a guy’s head and you should be tossed, especially since Pedro has a track record for hitting players and injuring them (breaking Jeter and Soriano’s hands). They wouldn’t pull this crap if they knew the same rules applied to them. What if the ball hit Garcia in the neck and took him out of the series? That’s hurting the Yankees chances to win. Well, I guess if Garcia could hit water from a boat that is. Not the point though.

I personally think Zimmer is a BAD ASS for running out there to stick up for his team. So what if he got tossed around, he still took one for his team.

Zim took a fastball to the head in er…1953 i think? it ended his major league career and put him in a coma for 13 days. yeah. i’d say he’s sensitive. who wouldn’t be.

1.) Tyler Durden would have definately slammed him to the ground.

2.) If you rush me, I don’t care your age or gender you will get slammed to the ground. I’m supposed to let you attack me because you’re old and stupid?

I like like ike.

How do you feel if you’re Pedro and you keep seeing that on Sportscenter? How do you feel if your kids see that? How do you feel if Zimmer’s your grandfather?
