God, you are witty and bring so much to these discussions. We are all blessed to have you here.
I wish I could be as serious as someone with your avatar.
I’m not opposed to the idea of legalising and regulating soft drugs and (some) middle ground substances
Like
- cannabis
- LSD/psilocybin/mescaline/DMT
- khat
- MDMA
- vaping (technically illegal in Aus)
I think the cost associated with policing said substances that are relatively (or totally with psychedelics) non addictive comparative to methamphetamine, cocaine, crack, heroin/opiates, dissasociatives and the likes probably outweighs the benefit elicited from lower incarceration rates, less overdose via improved quality control, lowered rates of youth related use if preliminary statistics pertaining to cannabis legalisation are to be believed… Less profit incurred by criminal syndicates…
There is a plethora of data available that has come to my conclusion. Recent Victorian cannabis enquiry recommends legalising/decriminalizing cannabis. Methamphetamine inquiry in NSW came to the conclusion we ought to legalise soft drugs, decriminalize minor possession (referral to treatment as opposed to a court date) for those caught, or repeatedly caught with small quantities of narcotics.
There is VERY little in the way of modern academic literature that supports a continual approach of “lock em up and throw away the key”. When we refer to low key users who otherwise aren’t involved in any other type of nefarious activity.
I think many, particularly those with a millitaristic mindset tend to lump in “cannabis, psilocybin” with “crack, methamphetamine etc”, particularly if they’ve seen a few psychotic reactions of which represents a sample of people reacting in a manner that is many standard deviations removed from the status quo.
All drugs cause issues… Alcohol kills some 6,000 Australians per year (far more than covid) yet we spend billions policing MDMA that kills what? 392 people from 2000-2018 despite the prevalence of use in teenagers being around 20%, higher for those who attend events like schoolies (closer to 35%).
Moral outrage tends to dictate our policies, but they ought to be based in scientific reasoning, not hysterical fear mongering. A rational assessment gauging the costs/detriments associated with policing a certain substance vs the costs/detriments associated with legalisation.
Granted the police commissioner in Vic just came out opposing the legalisation of cannabis because… Vicpol gets a juicy 1.1 billion in revenue per year to continually demolish cannabis crops and arrest those related.
Anyone who thinks cannabis cultivation isn’t associated with misery is (usually) fooling themselves. In Aus Vietnamese gangs and the likes operate large scale cannabis farms out in the bush/within leased out, desolate apartments etc. These gangs can sometimes be tied to human trafficking, arms trafficking etc
Legalisation would perhaps bypass the issue of barbaric syndicates like these incurring profit through cannabis of which likely makes up a substantial portion of their profit margin.
The defund the police crowd has turned to drug laws as a justification of why police reform needs to be conducted… I say drug law reform is more of an issue you ought to take up with parliament.
Change the law, it’s no longer the LEO’s job to enforce it…
Terrible ideas. No offense
As career LEO, I am having a hard time understanding this approach. Maybe the mayor should build a coliseum for every group to arrange battles. Since this approach seems to pushing the mobs out into the surrounding neighborhoods, how long before some civilian is going have to protect themselves or their family? The city of Portland administration is a national embarrassment and has forgotten their main responsibility is the safety of its citizens.
My opinion is that it’s simply pandering to them. These worthless vermin are holding the city hostage essentially. No honest politician with any integrity would allow this. This is theater. Its nefarious.
Antifa represents the absolute dregs and scum of humanity.

Got you a new gig. You two can replace the 5 who quit and split their salary.
Probably a pay cut, but it is on Table Rock.

Thanks for looking out for me , brother. After yesterday, I have to say its tempting. The federal agency I work for is killing me with woke rules. A couple of other instrcuors and I are running a entry CQB class. While arranging equipment, I asked another instructor how many females were in the class.
Well, evidently I was overheard by somebody and after the day was done, called over and told that the term “female” was a sexist term now. So, I said, (because i was tired of running 90 times through a kill house with shit agents), there is no such thing as male and female now? Can I at least call the male agents shitheads? or is cunt the word I use for both? Its a good thing I work for the feds now, or else my smart ass mouth would have gotten me fired anywhere else. unbelievable.
Well AOC said the term should be menstruating person, however that includes trans and fluid - so…

Trans fluid is red so…
She’s increasingly unhinged. I mean imagine thinking that way. We used to address mental illness now we celebrate and encourage it.
Ugh… These vermin are insufferable. Demoralized rejects.
It’s the same issue here… Ha. Low pay; lowest in the region, and junk equipment.
Yes… you need to refer to a female or a male as an “it”. Specifying gender is sexist! Get with the times. There is no such thing as a biological male/female, it’s fluid.

In Australia no one would stop you. Calling someone a cunt can be mean “hello mate!” or “you’re the scum of the earth” depending on the context by which it’s used in. Very odd society I live in… it’s a repugnantly woke police state at the moment, but at the same time traditional PC culture is abhorred here.
Here is an update on the brilliant leadership in Portland.
No worries dude … all they gotta do is redefine homicide and boom no more homicides!! It’s what the left does
If you stop reporting murders, then on paper… Murders cease to exist! It’s genius!
Exactly
They probably already have.
They’ve become far more “liberal” here in classifying homicides as “justified,” so it lowers the murder rate.
