Our Biggest Immediate Terrorist Threat

Given the recent attacks in Canada, I guess I got to eat a lot of crow in this thread.

Sucks you Hockey Loving Polite people can’t protect yourselves as easily as I’d prefer, but try and stay safe up there.

Anyone remember the DC sniper? As I recall, that was one adult male and a teenage boy, neither with much in the way of training or expertise. They essentially shut down DC and part of Virginia, for at least a week. Two men.

Yes, I remember. He was active around where I lived and went to high school. But he was well trained and had a long military career, including honors as an expert rifleman. I don’t remember how involved the kid was or if he was ever the triggerman. Everything was elaborately and meticulously planned; the guy was evil but not a dummy or amateur.

The DC metro area was on high alert, but wasn’t shut down. The biggest changes from my POV was you couldn’t fuck around outside during school and we had to practice football inside the basketball gym. I’m not minimizing their actions, just keeping things in perspective.[/quote]

No, he functioned as the spotter.

I don’t think you’re qualified to have this discussion. You clearly have no knowledge whatsoever about these incidents in question. I lived in the area at the time and remember quite well, they BOTH had a turn behind the trigger. Malvo (the kid) first claimed responsibility as the trigger man to protect Mohammed, but later recanted and admitted that they both took turns.

You are WRONG!!! Mark it down on your calendar, asshole.

Either way, I believe it was the kid who finally had a crisis of conscience and called LE to tell them what was going on. They are both in prison.

You’re right about the first part, but Muhammad was executed in 2009. Malvo is still in jail.

I was living in Bethesda, MD at the time and remember being more aware of my surroundings whenever I was outside my home at the time. Of course the first reports said they were driving a plain white contractors van and if you ever really start looking for those you will notice that they’re all over the place.

More fun facts:

  1. Malvo said that their original phase 1 plan was to kill 6 white people each day. They didn’t because traffic was too bad and they couldn’t get clean shots and/or get away quickly.
  2. Phase 2 involved shooting a pregnant woman in the stomach and then killing a police officer.
  3. Phase 3 involved bombing the police officers funeral

Malvo had a bunch of drawings that indicated his motives were linked to Islamic extremism but I think they both came across as so crazy that not many people really bought into it.

I think it’s sometimes forgotten that they also killed a bunch of people all across the country.
