For those invoking the UK, the UK has had a murder rate of no more than 1.5 per 100k for over 100 years. Even now, the UK murder rate is not the lowest it has been. The US has gone from a high of 10.2 to half of that.
50 year lows in murder do not seem to require the sky is falling attitude I have been seeing recently. “SOMETHING MUST BE DONE” is the worst attitude with which to approach reform. Which, for the record, I am not advocating. I am an Irish constitutionalist, and I respect constitutionalists far more than the alternative.
Edit: For clarity, I mean the Irish constitution when I mention the concept.
Yes yes and more yes. That’s the problem–the media in certainly the US, and almost certainly the UK as well as other EU countries, perpetuates an atmosphere of panic at Every. Little. Thing. And then doubles down in the midst of terrible tragedies like Orlando and Jo Cox’s murder.
I share your frustration my friend. I have gotten into several gun debates with friends, employees and others. And for some reason they have a huge blind spot.
And I am really tired of this bullshit about it being about guns, because we have seen attacks or attempted attacks using knives, box cutters (brought down the planes in 9/11), shoes, pipe bombs, and pressure cookers. The common theme among them all is their ideology that fueled them, but unfortunately because the facts are not on the side of gun control idiots, they must use hysteria to justify their position.
The left is good at framing the debate because they are helped greatly by the main stream liberal media. And the republicans in Congress have no spine.
You hear people say shit like “Obama is a Muslim” and I would dismiss that immediately. But it does make you wonder, ya know ? He would rather be the world’s babysitter than our President.
By changing the language on this issue, he has made the entire US a safe space for them. The San Bernardino shooter had all sorts of jihad bullshit on his Youtube page and no one picked this up. The Orlando prick spoke openly about supporting jihad. There is a point where we become the culpable for not acting. They could have easily gotten a search warrant and indicted him on conspiracy. Sorry for the rant, I watched Inglorious Basterds last night.
I actually don’t believe that he is a Muslim. But the fact is he was raised Muslim and there is no doubt he has a very soft spot in his heart for them. But even so one would think that he would want to separate the radical Muslims from the rest. But…nope seems to give them a free pass.
Good for him. Glad he (or someone in the admin) did this. Small shimmer of light in an otherwise shit hole performance of a reaction by this douche bag.
This is a rather revealing video. Forget the commentator, forget everything he says, if you wish… Just start the video at 1:47. That’s the revealing part.
He did. He gave them a gay club to shoot up and so long as they use guns to do it, he promises to deliberately obfuscate the problem to be about guns and republicans and totally avoid laying any blame at the feet of the islamists and the ideology that drives them.
He gave them the greatest safe space there is. Use guns to carry out terror and there will be no repercussions.
I am just saying that if you been questioned by the FBI for possible terror links, on a terror watch list or a no-fly list, your file should be flagged so that at least the gun store and the state who issues weapons licenses can make an informed decision about granting you a purchase or a license.
I.E. information should be shared with the places it needs to be shared with and the person to whom it has flagged should be made aware that it has been flagged so that if it’s in error it can be cleared up.
Irregardless, this is not a gun control issue it’s an islamic terror issue that is way to big to consistently ignore and hide under the carpet. What he used to kill with is secondary to the fact that he was hell-bent and determined to kill a bunch of people, particularly singling out gay people.
