Opinion on Tattoo

I want to get a tattoo, but im real picky about what i want. My girlfriend wanted me to get a panther(my favorite animal) but everyone has them. I wanted something that means something then i seen these 2 tattoos.

The first one means strength and the second one means power. Ill describe the position i want them in. Touch the middle of your trap, then go towards your back. Thats where i want it at.

It want cut out any deffintino cause the trap is basically a big block muscle until you get down further.

But i want strength on my right side and power on my left. I want them symetrical to each other if that makes since. If you were to fold me at the spine they would touch. Well anyway here they are. ( I dont want the words under them, just the symbol. )

What do you guys think ?

1st tattoo

2nd tattoo

Don’t take this the wrong way but if I told you a tattoo of a dick would look awesome on your forehead, would you do it?

Don’t worry about so much what other people think about your tats.

listen to your tattoo artist after you have picked out something you like and take his opinion into consideration.

There’s nothing worse than a tattoo you will regret after having it done.

Most artists will give an opinion on your design or tattoo ideas, and that is who should be trusted the most, not a bunch of people on an online forum.

Also remember to pick an artist you can trust, sit down and watch thier work habits, and see for yourself first hand the kind of work they do.

Bullpup

I don’t see Richard…try again.

Edit- Ok now that I do, I wish I still couldn’t see them. If you want “strength” and “power” get it written out in english instead of scribbles that may or may not be correct.

You should get strength on one side, speed on the other, and power on the middle. HA!

Symbols suck. They are used by everyone from the stupid jock to the fat housewife. Get something really actually means something to you, maybe even design something yourself.

As I tell everyone else that has this mindless tattoo thing going: Don’t decide that you want a tattoo and then decide what to get, find something that you really want and then decide to get the tattoo.

Just my 2 cents,
Monster

I got a large design on my upper arm when I was 18. The center of it has the chinese symbol for “fierce”…I hope. The symbol is the only part of the tattoo I regret. I’m probably going to look to get it touched up and see if I can find an artist that could throw together a decent looking cover up for the symbol.

I appreciate it bullpup. I know this, i just wanted to get an opinion from people. I want it, i guess i just wanted to see what peoples reactions are going to be. What you said also makes me think if its the best choice. I want something that i want regret and a tattoo thats means something to me like power and strength. Ive spent a good amount of time lifting weights and it means alot to me. It also means alot more than that also. One doubt i have is to get it in that form. asain writting. I think it would look better than words though.

Be careful if you choose a Chinese character. Many of them aren’t correct, they just “look cool.” But anyone who can read Chinese will laugh at you.

Chinese characters = teh gay

Wait a second, you don’t want a panther even though that means something to you(your fav animal) because everyone has one, but you want to get chinese symbols? Yeah, no one has those(rolls eyes).

Sorry man, no offense. As someone with a tattoo for 12 years my advice would be “do not get a tattoo, period”. But no one listens to me anyway.

I don’t know who started this whole rumor, but 99% of decent tattoo parlors have the fucking books on hand.

I also don’t know who decided that all east asian countries were now called “Chinese”, fucking racists. If you’re going to be broad and ignorant, atleast use the term “Asian”.

I have a few tattoos, a few I regret, a few I wouldn’t ever part with. But you only live once, so if you really want it then get it. No one will ever know it’s there unless you walk around in your girlfriends clothes.

Okay… I have 27 tattoos. Some in color, some not, some in a written language (all translated by the most reliable of sources, the Chinese characters down the back of my head were translated by my dad, who is off the boat from Taiwan, and the Hebrew was an English verse translated INTO Hebrew by a, get this, Conservative Lesbian Rabbi) and some not, some of people, some of animals… Here is the advice i give to everyone when they are thinking about getting a tattoo

  1. Never get your first tattoo somewhere where you can not see it every day of your life. It is VERY important that you can see it because i know quite a few people who got one on their back as there first one, and didnt like it, but ended up getting another one because they didnt have that reminder in their face everyday that they had one they were not happy with.

  2. Never get words, character, numbers, or letters in your first tattoo. I know ballet dancers who at 18 get something like “Dance is life” tattooed on their ankle or foot and then they go off to university, and they go off and audition… and never get a job as a dancer. I know people who get initials and things, or worse yet, their own name tattooed on them. Um… can you not remember your name?
Further more getting a foreign word tattooed on you that isnt part of who you are or your heritige is tricky, not only to get translated correctly, but also when someone OF that heritige sees it and asks you why exactly you have Chinese written on you if you are not clearly Chinese.

  3. This might be the most important health wise. Know your artist!
Ask questions, ask to see work, ask if they are certified in Adult CPR, First Aid, and have had blood borne pathogen training from the American Red Cross. Look for cleanliness and letters from local health departments commending them.
I have had the same artist for 7 years, and have gone to the same establishment for 9. My artist is not only my tattoo artist but she is also a very good friend who has all of the things i mentioned above displayed, as do the artists who work under her, for all of her clients to see.

For you, i say research the tattoo. Make it personal to you. What represents strength to you? What represents power? Is it the panther, an eagle, a thunder bolt, a particular comic book character or movie character? Is it a symbol like a star or the astrological sign of your mother or father? think about all the options and think outside the box because THAT is what makes for a good tattoo that people envy!

True story:

I’ve been to 3 tattoo parlors that had incorrect Chinese characters. The people that worked usually got an “oh shit” expression shortly before tearing the pages out of the book and throwing it away.

Getting a tattoo in another language is a bit risky so make sure you verify it.

There was a recent article in our local paper about people with Chinese symbol tattoos who discovered (from Chinese people laughing at them) that the symbols didn’t mean what they thought. One woman thought her tat said “butterfly” but it actually said “vulture”. A little bit of difference there.

Though i dont disagree with Lackzoom, i would say think long and hard about getting one. ESPECIALLY if you are hemming and hawing about getting one. A good artist will turn you away if you dont really know what you want, if you are not 100% positive that you want to live with the image for the rest of your life.

I can say that i love all of my tattoos, from the thorns around my bicep that i got when i was 18, to the image of Hatsumomo on my back and the comic book assassin Elektra on my arm that i got a few years ago, to the image of Madonna on the cross with the words "For I was hungry and you gave me food. I was naked and you gave me clothing. I was sick and you took care of me and God replied, “Whatever you did for the least of my brothers… you did it to me.” translated into Hebrew around her that i got a week ago… to the Angel Of Death that will be tattooed on my left rib cage on the 24th of next month… love em all!

as a tattooer(thats me) id say pass on the chinese lettering …its played and overall just kinda goofy…you like panthers??..get a japanese half sleeve with a panther or tiger in it…nice big bold stuff…sorta like this image i attatched…

My next tattoo is going to be an Irezumi, I just need to muster the funds to get to Japan and have Horiyoshi III do it:

To the OP: the best advice I can give you is to get the tattoo bigger than you think you want it. If you are committed to having it on your body for the rest of your life, you should be committed enough to get it BIG.

I would personally never pick a tattoo out of a flash book, primarily because it nullifies any artistic merit that the tattoo might have. Secondly, there’s a chance someone else will be walking around with the exact same tattoo as you.

Take the time to design an awesome tattoo of your own. You don’t have to be really good at drawing, a decent tattoo artist will always be glad to draw up your ideas with a skilled hand, provided you have some very rough sketches to work from.
