This isn’t too bold of a prediction. Florida plays a favorable schedule this year.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened either.
“Favorable Schedule?” Favorable - as in STRENGTH of schedule, maybe.
Was there someone actually mocking Tebow above? Dumbasses.
It will likely be UF vs. Big XII opponent.
Go Gators, baby! (Where’s NateDogg?!)
Tim Tebow is the most overrated player in college football. Florida is a great team, but it isn’t because of Tebow. In fact, if Harrell were still at Tech, and Tebow replaced Texas A&M’s quarterback, he just might be the worst quarterback in the entire Big XII South. He doesn’t stand a chance to be a star in the NFL.
Okay, whatever you say. I don’t even debate this with guys like you. You see what you want to see.
And since when does being the best player in college football have anything to do with being a star in the NFL?
Tim Tebow is the most overrated player in college football.

Tebow is a great athlete on a great team. Tebow’s ability and charisma are taken to super-star heights due to the sports media who has worshipped the guy since he first arrived at Florida.
I would agree to the extent that Florida’s defense had as much to do with the teams success as Tebow did.
Tebow’s skills at QB are good at the college level. He has a high passer rating and throws a low number of interceptions, but I don’t think anyone would argue for him becoming a great NFL quarterback. This probably the main reason why Tebow returned for his Senior year.
Thinking USC will be down this year is just a case of not learning from history. Uh-oh, no Carson Palmer! Uh-oh, no Matt Leinart! Uh-oh, no John David Booty! Uh-oh, no Matt Sanchez! That’s three top 10 picks I believe, two of which went top 5, and one even went number 1. USC has no problem replacing quarterbacks, and even if they did the rest of their team would be loaded enough to make up for it.
Because of this, OU/Texas isn’t really a lock for a spot in the Championship game. One team will have to lose to the other, and it’s not too much of a stretch to think that the other could stumble at some place.
Texas is going to have to play on the road against Oklahoma State and Baylor. Oklahoma State has had so many chances with even worse teams to take down Texas, but they just can’t hold on to a 4th quarter lead. Baylor isn’t near as good as Texas, but it’s a dangerous trap game. I really like where Baylor is headed with Briles and Griffin. Being at Baylor…you never know.
I wouldn’t expect OU to struggle at home against Baylor, but eventhough it is at home, that Oklahoma State game is going to be extremely dangerous. They also have some non-conference tests. They start the season off on a neutral field against BYU. You can never be sure how a team is going to play at the start of it’s season. Then they have a game at Miami. Miami will be back at some point. I don’t know when, but it will happen.
I think OU and Texas both end up with one loss, and if USC can go undefeated then they will be in the championship game.

What is it that makes Tebow so great? There are obviously plenty of better passing quarterbacks than Tebow. I don’t think that should even be a question. He’s not that great of a runner, either. I would probably say he was alright, but he averaged like 3.8 yards a carry. I would say Colt McCoy is a better runner AND passer than Tebow, and this is coming from an Oklahoma fan. Sure, I guess he is efficient, which is all Florida really needs, but to say he is one of the best players in college football is beyond a stretch. If you make Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford the quarterback on Florida, they definately still win the championship last year. If you put Tim Tebow as the quarterback on Texas or Oklahoma, they definately don’t win a championship.
It doesn’t. I just wanted to throw that out there because it drives me crazy that some people are brainwashed enough to think that. However, this is a season where I believe the best player in college football will have a great career in the NFL. His name definately isn’t Tebow, though.
I agree USC won’t be “down” but I worry that we will be somewhere in the top 5 like the past couple years. Sanchez was mediocre at best all season until the very end. I was shocked that he decided to make the jump. I thought he had finally found his stride and would be back to get a NC. His decision to leave was one of the most premature decisions I have ever seen in that regard.
That doesn’t mean we are for sure out of the NC game, but USC would have had an unbelievable offense this year if he was back. Pete has been doing a pretty good job of staggering O and D so that both units are not reloading at the same time. If you think about the past five years, the team has kind of vacillated between being strong D/weakish O and strong O/weakish D. Last year the O was a question mark, but the D was one of the best ever in the history of college football. Now the D is down, but the O is still a question mark. We just don’t know what we are going to get at quarterback next year.
Longhorns baby. Malcolm Williams…Cody Johnson are going to have break-out seasons. I’m worried about the defense…mainly the young secondary. Hopefully they will have improved and learned from last season’s experiences.

Yeah, you’re right. Tim Tebow is super overrated. He finished the 2007 regular season as the only player in FBS history to rush and pass for at least 20 touchdowns in both categories in the same season. He had 32 passing touchdowns, and 23 rushing touchdowns. Tebow’s rushing TD total in the 2007 season is the most recorded for any position in SEC history. Seems to me there have been some pretty good players in the past in the SEC. The total also set the record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in FBS history. Also, this was the year that Florida had an abysmal running game, and no pass defense whatsoever. We lost to LLOYD CARR’S MICHIGAN TEAM.
So, yeah. I can see where you’re coming from. He better start producing, because he really hasn’t proven himself at all.

Texas got screwed last year. I’m not partial to the Big XII, but jeez, the fact that Chokelahoma got into the Championship game is just stupid.
They don’t have anything to “learn from.” They just have to watch out for a high-flying gimmick team (TT) usurping them. Maybe if they learned to play defense out west they could control their destiny better…?
(Yes, I’m just talking shit to stir the pot a little bit. What’s college football without belligerent smack-talk?)

It wasn’t Texas vs. Oklahoma for the National Championship game spot. It was Texas Tech vs. Texas vs. Oklahoma. All three teams had one loss, and just because OU was so dominate against Texas Tech doesn’t mean Oklahoma should be punished for it. Also, if Oklahoma choked and didn’t belong in the first place, Florida probably didn’t belong either because it was a really close game.

Good! You learn fast!

Excuse me, but can he pass? You know…being a quarterback and all.
Nope, sure can’t pass. And last time I checked, this is against SEC defenses, not the JV defenses Bradford, McCoy, and Harrell are use to man-handling.
Anyone can have impresive passing stats when you send out 5 Wideouts and throw 60 passes per game, seriously.
I don’t even know why I’m still debating this. “The best player in the nation” last year couldn’t do shit against a Top-10 defense. Yet Tebow, who apparently can’t step out of his huggies, continues to win and dominate when it matters most. You guys can be pure “passers” if you want, but I’ll take wins and charisma, thank you.
Yes, I am impressed by Colt McCoy, he is a phenomenal athlete. Just like Tim Tebow. And wierd - he’s not a pure passer either.
Your argument is about as sound as people who say bodybuilders aren’t strong.

Bradford threw 5 TDs and 385 yards against Texas. He had literally no help from the running game that day. The Oklahoma offense moved the ball effectively against Florida in the first half. Florida was lucky to not be down by 14 at half. In fact, it was Florida’s defense that was keeping the team in the game while the offense struggled to move the ball against a “crappy” Big 12 defense.
Bradford’s Sooners played a considerably tougher schedule than Florida and put up numbers that will stand for a long time.
I’m not debating whether Tebow is a fantastic player. That much if obvious. I’m just defending a QB that deserved to and won the Heisman.

And I agree. Bradford had an EXCELLENT year. I think the OU - UF game was an anomoly. On any given day, I’d still predict the score to be at least a 21-28, 28-35 sort of deal. And, just for the record, I was referencing Bradford’s performance against Florida. They did, I believe, end up with the 8th ranked defense or something like that.
Either way, this is why I love college football! The controversy! The politics! The fucking BCS! (Love it or hate it, it’s great for hype and drama.)

I really don’t understand how you think that game proved that Big XII defenses are a joke. I mean, the only Big XII defense that played in that game pretty well shut your offense down. You had to score a late touchdown just to get to 24, otherwise you could have ended up with just 17. Don’t worry, I give you credit for that last touchdown, because there are 60 minutes in a game. Over the course of the season, this is the list of teams that scored more points than you guys against us-
Cincinnati
Texas
Kansas
Kansas State
Nebraska
Texas A&M (hahahaha!)
Oklahoma State
Teams that you scored more than 24 points against-
Hawaii
Miami
Tennessee
Mississippi
Arkansas
LSU
Kentucky
Georgia
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Citadel
Florida State
Alabama
Just so you know, that means that your worst offensive game came against…a BIG XII DEFENSE! The only game against a Big XII defense in fact. Not even the MIGHTY ALABAMA DEFENSE could slow you down! You scored over twice as much against the MIGHT GEORGIA DEFENSE. I’m not sure what other defenses were supposedly amazing so I can’t bring them up. If you would point them out I gladly would, though.
As for “couldn’t do shit,” I don’t get that either. He didn’t do quite as well as normal, but he still did better than Tebow…and Tebow was playing a “JV defense.” He threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns. He had two interceptions, but I remember at least one of them was a tipped ball that wasn’t his fault. Can’t remember the other one.
Also, almost all the Big XII quarterbacks had pretty good bowl games outside of Daniel.
And I agree. Bradford had an EXCELLENT year. I think the OU - UF game was an anomoly. On any given day, I’d still predict the score to be at least a 21-28, 28-35 sort of deal.

I think that can be attributed to the month between conference title games and the bowls. It always seems to effect one team, and in some cases both. The layoff didn’t appear to have an effect on the defenses as both played well.
That is why I am not as crazy about a playoff as some people. Under the current system, every game is so important.
