One Song for the Rest of Your Life

Your son has good taste!

I got dragged to the ā€œEdinburgh Tattooā€ a few years ago. Didnā€™t know what a Tattoo was supposed to be so I was very confused given it was in a reasonable large stadium. I learnt it is a big, loud annoying band that moves around to assault your ears from all directions.

Weā€™ve been taking him to the St. Patrickā€™s day parade since he was tiny, and I guess it just caught on for him! Then we were watching some YouTube stuff like a year ago and he says ā€œI want to hear the music like at the parades.ā€ and gestured like playing bagpipes, and that was what he meant!

Since this is the Off Topic forum, I guess I can derail the thread off-topic and ask this:

My fellow musiciansā€¦

If you could only play one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Mine: Everlong by Foo Fighters. Iā€™m a drummer.

Hmmm.
I am a (poor) guitarist but I think I would pick either Lucille by BB King or Call me the Breeze - original JJ Cale version.

Can I pick one guitarist? If so JJ Cale

Iā€™m a shitty pianist ā€¦ If I could play my original submission, thatā€™s what itā€™d be (Rachmaninoff concerto 2 1st movement)

Sweet thread dude canā€™t wait to check these songs out tomorrow at work ahh. I havenā€™t decided on one yet dang. So many

Obviously it would be the best metal song in history with a true guitar God.

Tool - Lateralus. Since itā€™s already been mentioned, perhaps Iā€™d choose Pneuma

Is Lateralus the best Tool song and also best album? Maybe I listen to Aenima more often, even though itā€™s not their best album.

Good choice. I still have yet to properly listen to Fear Inoculum in its entirety. I got to Pneuma and just got hooked on it.

I like a few of them. Lateralus isnā€™t my favorite song, but it is pretty good. I really liked the new album. It is probably the most drum heavy album and as a drummer, it is just amazing to hear top notch drumming that doesnā€™t stop for an entire album (aside from a few weird tracks).

You and @doogie surprise me on this one. I like First Aid Kit, but I thought they were relatively small (maybe I am wrong, but I didnā€™t think Swedish folk music was very popular?). They are certainly better than their popularity indicates (my silver lining is a fantastic song).

No, but itā€™s good. The best tool songs arenā€™t from that album in my opinion.

Adding to your list:
Schism
46&2
Pneuma
Lateralus

I think Sober is my favorite.

Love that album. Its funny when youā€™re training and you finish your main lift realizing you only listen to 3 songs lol. And yes, Danny is out of control good.

As to First Aid Kit, crazy how two Swedish girls do a better job of carrying the torch for a folk/country/western sound than 95% of current American groups.

I was really tempted to have something by Allison Krause but e said 1 song, had to go with Tool. Btw gotta put ā€œright in twoā€ high on the list.

If I were to pick a more traditional song, Iā€™d pick either a Neil Young or Bob Dylan. If this is ā€œfor the Rest of Your Lifeā€ Iā€™d want to ensure the song withstood the test of time.

My favorite Neil Young song is Cortez the Killer (so many to pick from, but man I love this one)

But in reality, I think this may be the best rock song ever written. Itā€™s almost cliche to say, but Dylanā€™s ā€œLike a Rolling Stoneā€ cannot be overlooked.

Highway to Hell AC/DC. Itā€™s the soundtrack to my life. That or Comfortably Numb- Pink Floyd
