Dude, I went with my ex-girl and her family 2 or 3 months ago to Fogo de chao and for 5 people and a few drinks it was over 3 bills after tip. The food was killer though.
wowzers. The place I know of but never been to is Texas de Brazil. I just checked their prices and its $47.99 for full dinner and $29.99 for just the salad bar.
$29.99 just for the salad bar? WTF could possibly in that salad bar for someone to pay that option?
Dude, the Fogo de Chao salad bar was INSANE. All kinds of fresh veggies, fruit, prepared potatoes of all kinds, cured meats, exotic cheeses… They even had salmon filets. Don’t know if they do a salad bar only option but I’m sure you could get your money’s worth if they did.

Hey man went to a organization meeting tonight down behind Reliant, and guess who was catering? Demeris, maybe it was because it was catered I would give it a 8 rating out of 10.

Haven’t been to a Golden Corral in probably a decade but agree on the hit-or-miss part. What you need to find is a Pancho’s Mexican buffet. You go through a line cafeteria style and fill up your tray with whatever you want [Flautas, taquitos, chalupas, whatever] and go to your table. When you’re ready for more food you raise a little Mexican flag on your table and the waitress will come by and ask you what you want. You get to do this an unlimited amount of times. When you’re finally stuffed full of delicious Mexican goodness, the waitress brings a tray of freshly cooked sopapillas and warm honey. It is glorious. Haven’t been here in over a decade as well, but I’m gonna find one in celebration of this thread.
Pancho’s is perhaps the king of hit-or-miss buffets, if by ‘hit’ you mean ‘miss’ and by ‘miss’ you mean ‘shoot yourself in the GI tract’.
I was not impressed. Chachos is the way to go for significant volumes of mexican food of decent to high quality with decent total pricing.
Agree with OP on Golden Corral. One on 290 and… Hollister…ish…in Houston was decent to me six months ago. Haven’t been back for unrelated reasons.
Did you go in the late 80’s/early 90’s? We used to go to the one by the house off of 59 on the other side of Westwood Mall, and it was amazing. Went again early 2000’s and the quality had gone way down. Drove by the other day and now it’s a Zorro’s buffet, but don’t know what they’re serving. Chacho’s is alright, but it’s more of an after hours “grub on shit while you’re hammered” joint.
If that’s what you’re into go to La taqueria tapatia. Stay away from Rucchi’s. Also, went to a Country Kitchen Buffet once and got sick as a dog so never went back. There used to be a joint called Ryans that was just like GC, but don’t know if they’re still around. And, when you’re really trying to go apeshit there’s always CiCi’s.
Would’ve been mid 90’s. Pancho’s off 45. Maybe its different down south?
Have been to Tapatia. Did not like, though I can’t remember why right now. Something about soup and shitty meat was all I remember.
This thread is better when its almost totally Houstonians. We fuckin know how to eat.
Isn’t too much protein bad for your kidneys?
Yea, brah. That’s why you have to make sure you go for 3 hours and space it out so you’re only taking in no more than 42g protein/hour.
I’ve been to GC once. I surely got a fair share of meat, but remember everything being sooo damned salty. I paid for it later, getting some terrible vertigo until I threw everything up. I can’t even see a GC now without gagging.

That’s insane. We have ton’s of Brazilian and Portuguese rodizio’s in Northern NJ and most are usually around $30. Probably it’s because so many live in this area. Newark has an entire section with awesome Brazilian and Portuguese food. We also have an abundance of Brazilian stripper in our go go bars which is also a benefit.

yeah if you want to spend $50/person
They lose money when I go. I easily finish more than $50 of meat.

^ But isnt that just sad, you have to avoid certain places to eat due to the people that go eat there?
You brought up WalMart I was down on business in my old town of Corpus, went to a local WalMart cause I needed something for my daughter. The guy who rings the bell at Christmas time is laying on his back, head up against the wall, has a full meal from McDonalds laid out on his chest eating. I so wanted to take a picture of that. Of course he was fat, and his shirt had ridden up where his gut was hanging out.
nom nom nom…makes me want a six Mcdoubles, no cheese, no pickles.
Reminds me of this jockey agent I know, the guy can kill a buffet and it shows with six inchest of fold hanging below a tall tee…a tall tee like you see basketball players and inner city kids wearing.
This guy has a good job (he gets paid 15% of whatever a jockey makes off a race), otherwise he’d probably be much smaller. Anyway, it was his day to buy pizza for the office. Usually it takes four pizzas to get everyone enough for lunch. I was sitting in my father’s office and this guy comes in with six pizzas in his office (custom is four pizzas) and he walks out and brings in more boxes of wings, cheese sticks, cinna stix, and a pasta bowl. He ate two pizzas, 25 wings, two boxes of cheese sticks, a pasta bowl, and a box of cinna stix as desert. I stopped after a couple of slices after I saw him start in to the last half of the second pizza as he smashed slice after slice into his grease covered face wheezing as he chugged along.
I’m sure the guy put down a small third-world village’s weekly caloric diet in 45 minutes.

I think you’re probably right, brah. I remember one spell where I did 48.6g per hour and holy shit, did I get sick. My kidneys were wasted for several months and only until I did a cayenne pepper and ginger “cleanse” did I find relief. I will never dabble in mega-doses of protein again, that’s for damn sure. Brah.
The best buffet known to man as far as superior food is The Nordic Lodge, in RI. Though it’s not $11, it’s more like $70, it’s all you can eat Seafood and Meat. For $70, I had that topped on my second trip up. Lobster + Filet, eat… Lobster + Filet, eat… Lobster + Filet, Eat… The lobsters were huge and caught that day. The filet was like brown gold. I finished off with a plate full of chocolate covered strawberries and cherries. If you’re in RI look it up, it’s seasonal and only open certain days of the week.

No they dont.
Food is roughly 20% of what total costs in a restaurant.

Are you ignoring the overhead costs? If every patron ate us much meat as I do, the average rodizio would go out of business.

True, but they pay the overhead anyway.
Now food might be number one of the variable costs and I am not even sure about that, but the food costs in a restaurant make up a surprisingly low percentage.
If you have a buffet, they save on staff too, so I guess if you do not absolutely annihiliate it twice a week they still come out about even with you.
ANd you are of course great advertising because you are loiving proof that you indeed can eat as much as you want.

Yeah, I felt like it was excessive but fortunately I didn’t pay the bill. Everything was really high quality though and you can definitely get your money’s worth if you’re down to eat 'til you hurt.
