Did you catch the games last night? I missed them. Did your Czechs lose? How are your Czechs doing?
I hang my head, sadlyā¦the czechs are outā¦and Belarus is in? What the fuckā¦Oh well, USA and russia tonight, I wonāt attempt to make any predictions on this one, I fear it may affect the outcome. I would like to see USA vs. Canada in the Gold medal round.
Does anyone else think the olympics have lost something since professionals in all sports play? The '80 miracle on ice was/is one of the greatest sports moments of all time. Dominick Hasak stoning Mario Lemieux (sp) is just another sportscenter highlight now. Maybe Iām just getting old and cranky. I used th have to walk 4 miles uphill to school in the snow every dayā¦
There have always been professional hockey players in the olympics⦠Just not Pro Canadian or Pro American players⦠What do you think the old Red Army team was in the USSR? So basically our amateurs were pitted against their pros⦠Wonder why we havent won gold in 50 years?
Miko: I agree with you that the Olympics has definitely lost something since a bunch of college kids won the gold medal for the U.S. in 1980 (undoubtedly my all-time favorite moment in sports!) Reminiscing is wonderful, but pining for the good old days and what used to be seems to serve little purpose in the present. āHe who lives in the past robs the present!ā What Iām saying isā¦that was then and it was great, but this is now (things change)!
Would also like to add: As a ārabidā hockey fan, the
games I have watched over the last week (which were many)⦠were nothing short of sensational⦠Belarus beating Sweden, stunningā¦USA completely dominating perhaps the most highly skilled team in the
tournament for two periods, and then holding on for dear life in the final period to defeat the Russians 3-2 was what hockey is all about.
