Older Yet Evidently Not any Wiser

It’s been too cold to work out in my garage at home, mostly because I’m weak; it’s only in the teens, but I’ve apparently gotten used to the North Carolina climate. Consequently, this week’s deadlift session was done at the office gym, which went better than expected. When I first got there we had a trio of All Biceps All The Time guys from the sales office, but they were just leaving as I arrived, so I had the place pretty much to myself.

Plus, this whole “5/3/1 is simple!!!” lie was revealed to me, since if you normally lift in Kilos, but end up at an Imperial gym you have to do Actual Math while lifting. It nearly gave me the vapors.

Cycle 10, Week 1, Deadlift

Weights in KG are what the program called for; the ones in pounds are what I actually did.

Warmup: 65kg/145lbs x 5, 80/175 x 5, 95/210 x 3
Work: 105/230 x 5, 120/265 x 5, 135/300 x 5+ (made 6, new +1 Rep PR)
BBB: 75/165 x 10 x 5

I was way winded by the end of it, and headed back to my office to scarf down a can of tuna and a protein bar before taking a shower. Apparently, trying to lift on 2 Dunkin’ Donuts and 3 cups of coffee just isn’t quite enough.

Having fallen to page 3, I decided maybe it was time to get back on the posting horse. Since I don’t want to type in all of the log data for the past 3 weeks (and frankly you don’t want to read it), I’ll try to provide the executive summary:

Military press - hit a new PR of 52.5kg, which is a full 5kg more than previously. This is entirely because I cannot do math and loaded the bar up wrong.

Bench - did the workout at a YMCA with a regular bench (no power cage), and felt surprisingly easy compared to usual. Got a 2.5kg PR there too, although I forget the exact amount (82.5kg, perhaps)

Squat - A week behind on this due to travel and lack of access to a rack, but still going well. Will do the Week 3 stuff tomorrow, so should hit a new PR there as well.

Deadlift - Hit a new PR of 10kg more than before, at 150kg. Not sure if I typed the wrong data into my spreadsheet or if the rounding/percentages just worked out to a 10kg jump from last round.

And, I got a duffel bag and a sack of sand for Christmas (fortunately that wasn’t all I got), so I’m ready to try burning off some of the Power Gut by hauling it from Point A to Point B and back.

Hey, I got a misload induced PR of sorts recently too. Good progress.

Way to go on all the PRs. Funny that your millie PR was a result of a misload. Really speaks to the psychological aspect of this sport.
