There is a running joke at the gym that raw I can’t get to depth with anything under 500. My tight hips simply bind up, need to the weight to push me down as though I had gear on.
Awesome stuff man, do you usually do low rep BB shrugs, it looks like you have some big traps Im just wondering if that was a byproduct of all the other insane weight your pulling, or keeping shrugs in the 6 rep range.
Oh and Im benching tomorrow, nothing stupid this time lol.

Thanks Matty
I do usually keep the reps around 6’s on the shrugs. Not sure on the trap but probably all the dead work and the snatch/clean pulls.
Good idea on the bench tomorrow…lol
Thanks Pete, i am actually getting close to pulling as much for 5’s raw as i ever did. Not sure but somewhere around 575 when i was younger. Then always throw on gear so pretty excited about that. Not sure how much longer i can ride out the 5’s but i think they are a good strength builder for me?
Thanks ddot. i feel like i am getting my groove back. I had about a 5 year layoff in the mid 90’s and when i got back to training conv deads hurt my hips and i suck at sumo. Finally getting it dialed back in but took a while.
For cues i try to keep low back flat as i can and i think that sets up my hips etc. I believe no matter how you pull, conv, sumo, stiff leg, etc low back being flat is the key.
I am a quick push off floor (feet through the floor) then pull type dead lifter, usually try to raise my head as i pull. Past that deads are a pure adrenaline lift IMO
I had a guy teach me some dead stuff when i was maybe 18 or 19. He had pulled amazing weights (would have to look but 500 range at 132, world class at the time) went through the whole pretend your standing in a box, squat down to bar, tight lats, flat back etc etc…then says NOW PULL YOUR FUCKING BALLS OFF…lol so true, never forgot that

checked at the beginning of your log, you list max pull as 590. With how smooth 545 x 5 went I am guessing you are good for something higher…
Yea i think so. Pull 505x5 when i pulled 590 and 505x5 was pretty tuff. Adding in the no touch deads, stiff legs off block etc has really helped (stuff i used to do). In all fairness pulled 666 at 198 with a squat suit on (early 90’s) so really just getting back close to where i was. I though i was training again until i look back at what i used to do and found out i was BS myself. So got back to what worked for years and trying to get back to where i was and it seems to be working again…fingers crossed

Thanks. I think I’m setting too low (angled back - squat position). That seems to have struck a chord with me.
