Oil Prices Go Down, Gas Goes Up

In the USA this is taken care with Social Security and Medicare. If the man worked he contributed to his ability to live without working.

Before Social Security the family unit took care of their elderly.

I still don’t see your point.

I never contributed to Medicare. When my wife turned 62, I believe I was qualified through her. I “took the high road” in not taking Medicare, but continuing to buy my former employer’s group health insurance. I still pay for that insurance.

Ok, so to be forced on medicare you would have to contribute through your employer (paycheck) thru out the years

did not know know you could opt out of contributing

am i understanding that correctly

My employer had a pension plan. If you decided to get on the pension plan (a no brainer), you did not contribute to either Social Security or Medicare. If I had worked 40 quarters where I contributed to Social Security and Medicare I would have been qualified for both. I only work 28 quarters.

I don’t believe you can be forced to take Medicare.

Understood

I was told you can…does not mean they were correct

I can get Medicare via my wife, who did pay for Social Security and Medicare. I elect not to do so.

I just googled it…anyone who refuses to sign up for medicare will forfeit social security benefits…did not know this

And I had no Social Security benefits that I could lose. When my wife signed up for her Social Security benefits, I was told that my pension payments were too high for me to qualify for any Spousal Benefits, which would have been nearly $1,000 per month. While talking with my wife about Social Security when she was enrolling, the agent via my wife’s SS Number knew what my benefits were. She said I was free to apply for Spousal Benefits, but I would very likely be denied. I didn’t bother.

Off topic slightly, but anyone under 45-50 who is banking on social security as retirement is a complete fool.

Of course relying on the government in general for your welfare at any level is foolish.

He should have prepared for his retirement.

At any rate, I’d take care of grandpa, but the government shouldn’t.

Lol USA is such a goofy ass country

Agreed,

Me personally will have a pension, a 401k and social security

I have a brother that lives on social security and VA for medical and another that will not be eligible for social security because he paid nothing in

I don’t see anything wrong with that

I mean that’s fine, but don’t cry when they fuck you over or you don’t live to the level of people that don’t.

As a side note, SS and Medicare are not “paid for” with Fed. taxes.

Yes, the payments ought to be higher.

Yeah fuck the geezer! He probably didn’t have to work for the average shitty wages paid today.
