How are the dextrose tablets helping you? Do you have more energy, more pump, stronger? Please elaborate.
From what I have read, dextrose produces an immediate insulin spike and drives nutrients into muscle. It is supposed to produce a better pump in addition to the burst of energy from the rise in blood sugar. I felt a difference with it last night. The tablets I have now are 4g chewable tablets. I started with one on Monday and took two yesterday. I am going to try three when I lift tomorrow. I have looked all over my area and nobody has powder. GNC has ordered me some. There is an old thread on here about it. I also did a little research on other sites. It is supposed to work. I am going to keep increasing the amount until I find what seems optimal. I am also going to keep an eye on my blood sugar level to make sure I don’t make myself diabetic doing this. While I was lifting last night my shoulders felt like they got pumped faster and fuller. The pump seemed to last longer afterwards too.
What you’re saying about the dextrose I have read before. For many years I have use a fruit juice with creatine and other supplements to drive the nutrients into the muscle. I may try dextrose and see if I like it.
Off day for me. I spent the afternoon splitting firewood and getting 2 barns ready to stall up horses for the bad weather headed our way. It is supposed to be 8 tomorrow. 8. I live in Alabama and it is going to be 8. May get a little snow and/or ice tonight as well. People here freak out about it too. There isn’t a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread to be found here. I never understood that. Do you guys who live up north have store houses full of milk and bread for the winter? I must be missing something.
I had to miss some lifting time this week and it messed up my IBB thing I was doing. I did chest and shoulders yesterday:
High incline BP:
6 sets of 3 ramped up from 135 to 185
3 sets of 8 at 135
OHP from pins
6 sets of 3 ramped up from 135 to 185
2 sets of 8 at 135
Floor flys 3 x 10 with 25s
Lateral raises 3 x 10 with 25s
Hanging leg lifts 3x20
Sit ups off of ball 50
Had 30g protein shake prior to lifting and another one after.
Drank creatine/Gatorade mix and popped dextrose tablets while lifting.
My shoulders feel great after one week of IBB shoulder work. I wish I had taken before and after pics. Cant wait to get back on it next week.

Oh yeah, your stuff all gets sent up here. Seriously, we can run out, but get snowed in before making a run on the stores.
If you’re talking 8 degress, it took 2 days here before it got up to that point.

And today it got up to 65 here. I worked outside in shorts and and a tee shirt. Winter in the south is something else.
Just built a big fire and made a big pot of spaghetti. While that was cooking I cut up a deer tenderloin to cook tomorrow. Got that bad boy sitting in the fridge with some salt, pepper, garlic and parsley. Mmmmmmmm.
Got back into IBB shoulder specialization tonight. Not going to try to log it real accurate here it just takes too much time. Tonight did Top half seated press from pins, high incline BP and push press.
I took that tenderloin I talked about earlier and cut it into 2 inch thick little “steaks” and wrapped bacon around it filet style. Threw those on the grill and cooked up some bacon, cheddar and Parmesan grits. Yum.
01/14/14
Did day 2 shoulder specialization on IBB.
Supersets of Squat (sub for leg press) and leg curls
Supersets of low incline BP from pins and cable rows
Supersets of tri ext from pins and preacher curls
I looked through the IBB threads and stuff and there was a lot of folks saying that they had shoulder pain. Other than being sore occasionally I have not had any problems. In fact, with all of the presses from pins it has actually been easier on my shoulders. My shoulders feel great.

You’re lucky not to have shoulder problems.
Yes. Perhaps my 2 decade vacation from lifting has something to do with that. I am loving this IBB program. I just tore the Wednesday shoulder workout slap the f up. Yes I am a day behind.
Last night I did the Wednesday shoulder work for IBB. I got a day behind due to sick kids and other commitments.
7 sets of 2 on everything with 15-20 seconds rest between sets.
OHP from pins (185) super set w side raises (35s)
Push press (155) super set w front raises (25s)
SGHP (200) super set with low pulls (235)
Upright rows (100) super set with face pulls (75)
Also did some ab stuff, hanging leg raises 3x20, hanging oblique raises 2x10 on each side.
The program calls for arranging the exercises a little differently in the super sets, but due to equipment and space limitations that is how I had to do it.
Ogre - So how does this program compare with the layer system we talked about last Fall? You were getting some good results from that if I remember correctly.

I did get great results on layers. This is an older system that I had wanted to try out before but did not have the equipment to do it without deviating too much. I am going to run through each phase of the program twice and then I intend to go back to layers. I was mainly focusing on strength while I was on layers. This seems to be more hypertrophy-ish. I am using more weights in the 50-70% range and doing lots of super sets. On layers a lot of it was 90% and I really also sort of needed a break from that.
Rack Pulls 2 sets 3
Deads 6 sets 3
Pull ups 6 set 3
Cable rows 6 sets 3 and one set max reps
Have not dead lifted in a while. Felt good. My grip needs work. I had to strap up when I got to 300. I only lifted an hour ago and I already feel muscles that haven’t been hit like that in a while. Tomorrow morning may suck.
