I’m still waiting for an actual US goal. The next round of matches for the group should be interesting with all the players missing. We have a fair shot of advancing now.
Anyone else notice T & T’s striker (or was it Ivory Coast?), Glenn? He was pretty sick, cutting up the defense as much as he did. Admittedly not much came of it, but he was damn exciting to watch. And Rosicky was straight sick in the first game. Glad Arsenal got him. Where’s Henry gonna be next year?
The key point in the game was the Ronaldo substition. The lad they bought on changed the game.
2-0 was maybe a little harsh but qualification is still possible.

Boo to the ref, that was pretty riduculous the calls he made! Oh well, we’ll beat Croatia and make it through!
Go Australia!
Croatia vs. Australia will definitely be interesting.
Our national coach, Zlatko Kranjcar, is rather perversely pleased that we played horrible and drew against Japan.
His logic is that we were bound to fuck up sooner or later after a solid performance against Brasil. Fortunately, we can still qualify if we defeat the Aussies.
Our best performances in the last two major competitions (WC2002 win against Italy and Euro2004 draw with France) came after horrid performances not unlike this one vs. Japan.

We have to put away any chances we get, unfortunately this was not the case today. Kewell should have put away the ball dropped by the keeper at his feet. Instead of blasting it high a little bit of finesse was all that was needed to get it over the keeper. Same with his long range attempt when he was screaming down the left flank and the keeper was rushing out to meet him, it didn’t need to be hammered towards goal, a nice little lob shot would have done just fine.
Bresciano also stuffed up when he had made a break in a similar situation to Kewell, instead of lobbing the keeper he tried to cut back inside on to his right foot and ran into the defender instead.
However, it was a great display in the first half, I think we had Brazil a little bit concerned, but their first goal took the wind out of our sails so early into the second half.
Croatia is going to be very interesting, they obviously have to improve but they will also need to go all out in attack which will give us counter-attacking opportunities, similar to what Brazil had against us in the second half when we were trying to catch up and pushing forward all the time. This should work in Australia’s favour and if we can just convert the goal chances we should get through, it’s gonna be tense though!
i can’t wait to see argentina play again. i loved the style and the fluidity of the game they played. it looked a lot like brazil when they play collectively – if they keep it up i think they may just take the whole thing.
but brazil loves the game and it shows, even though ronaldo is playing like hell. if he gets is 2 goals he’s done for world cup from here on out.
gotta pick the others cause we all know the u.s. is playing like shit…
I thought Brazil were very very ordinary and Oz certainly didn’t deserve to lose that match.
There is no way Brazil are going to win the WC. It’s not a case of them peaking later in the tournament - it’s a simple case of them being unbalanced, everyone else’s strikers getting better, whilst even Togo’s defence are probably stronger (if they get paid enough to play, that is!), and the amount of true class at peak condition (as in not ‘over the hill’) in that squad compared to the other big hitters.
Ronaldinho is a brilliant player but possibly goes missing a bit in occasion. I’d rely on him to entertain me, but not necessarily to win me a match.
Their defence is laughable. 2xFull backs with a combined age of around 70?
Watching Ronaldo play now is so sad. Truly one of the greatest ever footballers to grace the world stage. I hope he has enough in him to get his 3 goals and eclipse the WC scoring record but I doubt it. Though if he does I hopes it’s when they lose 4-3 to us in the final!
Adriano is phenomenal though. Pace, power, finish. Everything a good striker should be. But like me really.
Robinho is quality too, if a little lightweight. Reminded me of a more skillfull Owen back when he burst on the scene in 1998. However, this is Ronaldo’s swansong and I’m sure he will start every match and so Robinho will have to be content with being a super-sub.
In other news, Rebrov just scored a quality goal… So THAT’s why Spurs bought him. Cos I did wonder…

what ive noticed about the usa team is hat they are all very fast.
How old are you?
reason for asking??
read you first sentence.
Heh, exactly.
Good win tonight for Spain, I didn’t think it was looking to good for them after the first half but they managed to pull it off quite well.
Great win for them but overall I thought their passing was a bit off. Not the quality of the pass itself but more the lack of vision. Joaquin was practically ignored until someone finally looked to the right…

I think in general the teams should work on marking and playing together as a team - Brazil seems to pull this off quite well, which is what makes them such a good team.
I’m South African, but I’ve seen how fanatical the English are about their soccer and I think if they want to win the world cup, no matter how good their players think they are, they should work on this, team work that is.
I’m not saying England has a bad squad at all, but in my opinion they shouldn’t put all their hopes into one player, such as Rooney.

There you go again, what is RONG with you!?
I’m just pulling the piss outta you man, but I’ve had 6 beers now and I still check to make sure I’m typing properly.
Australia did quite well against Brazil unfortunately too many missed opportunities … too many kicks for goal that narrowly missed, our strikers I believe, were feeling the pressure and psyched out against the “mighty Brazil” … in my opinion.
The referee seemed bias to Brazil.
Also Brazil really pushed the offside limits, getting called out quite a few times, you have to test the limits at that level, better to get an offside occassionally and be there to score a goal, than never get offside and never be ready to strike.
I don’t know if people realise this but soccer is not really big downunder, it gets hardly any airplay on TV, there are a lot of people playing it but it is nowhere near the most popular sport. So it is pretty amazing how well the team is doing. I’d say they will be very strong contenders for the next world cup. Most people down here are really impressed at how far they have come already.
