Just wonderin’…

Have any of you guys been to San Diego’s Copley Hall? I plan on seeing a performance there some time next month and I was wondering where would be the best place to sit? It’s going to be a vocal performance backed by an orchestra, if that makes any difference at all.

Thanks in advance!

I used to have a brother in law who lived in Hillcrest with his wife. They had an apartment and I used to visit them often. Training at the 24hr Fitness down there was…interesting. I used to jog from there to Balboa Park at night too. He used to joke with me, “My sister would be ok jogging out there. You, not so much.” They’ve since moved from Hillcrest and I haven’t been back there since. The Trader Joe’s there was just strange. The attire and demeanor of the male and female workers there, it was like it was opposites day.

I live in North Park (right next to hillcrest) and actually tried out that 24hour fitness on a week pass when I was looking for a gym. The only way to describe it is… the gayest gym on the planet.

I’m being serious. I saw MULTIPLE pairs of cut off jean shorts in the gym! Goddamn cut offs! It was a total meat market for all the tiny gay dudes. I went there and on the 3rd day it was so bad I said “I’m never coming back here again.” My fiance (girlfriend at the time) said “yeah this is even too gay for me.” lol

Yup, that just about ruined my commercial gym experience.

i’ve got a membership to Golds Gym now and its not bad. There are a few douches in there (especially this one fat trainer/MMA guy with his stupid half mowhawk… he’s my arch nemisis) but overall its pretty good.

I now live about as far away from Hillcrest as is physically possible and still be considered San Diego County. San Marcos. I train in my back yard with weights I’ve accumulated from Craigslist. I just picked up another set of 45’s and 35’s last night.

i know someone who lifts at Golds and fits that exact description. If we are thinking of the same guy, he is a nemesis of mine as well. If you see his name tag, let me know if it is sam/sammy.

Anyone interested in a Kettlebell workout today? (Saturday)
Looking to do typical ETK workout, but with VO2Max snatches
Maybe some sled work if someone else comes, otherwise

Still trying to pass on the 2 tubs of Surge Recovery to anybody that wants it. I’m not using it, and will be retiring from the Navy and possibly moving. Yours for the asking.

Gregron… I am keeping the chalk bag

Im still throwing out the fact that ill take anyone into the 24hr i go to with me. If nothing else (if hyena is with me that is), We will laugh a butt-ton (metric standard) at others expense. Not to their face all mean like of course, but they deserve it. We have Nicknames for about 40 of the members that go there =p

Near Frys and Home Depot

My friend is going to California some city called Carlsbad which is apparently very close to San Diego.

What spots in San Diego would you guys recommend checking out? What about in terms of night life and restaurants?

He’s going for some work seminar but is taking an extra 2 days off there

what kind of night life is he looking for and does he have transportation? Carlsbad is decently far north from the places i hangout in.

Pacific beach bars can be a little overwhelming if you aren’t used to that kind of debauchery. There are a lot of cool ‘surfer dive bars’ in the Encinitas area which is much closer to Carlsbad than pacific beach is. I would avoid the downtown san diego club scene. Not worth it in my opinion.

A car, rental or otherwise is almost essential in San Diego.

As for what kind of night life he’s looking for, not sure if it’s his cup of tea but there’s always the Hillcrest style night life. Just sayin".

Nicknames are the best since you see the same gym people almost every time but there’s a lot you don’t talk to, need some easy way to identify them without a name. If someone has a unique or lame workout/clothes/vehicle/behavior/etc they get a nickname based on it.

I think i might be going to Hash House this Friday morning…

Oh definitely. My Nicknames are so awesome, someone without any knowledge of who we’re talking about could tell who we were talking about based on the nickname.
