Official San Diego Thread

Not doing the Strongman comp but I’m looking to get in on the next Warrior Dash in April.

^^I did it last year in Elsinore. It was a lot of fun

^^I’m “vertically challenged” (5’4). Do you think I’d have any issues with climbing walls? …and how high do the cargo nets go? Just doing a little recon so I know what I’m getting myself into. The distance is nothing. I actually wish the distance would be a little longer.

^^No you wont have any issues. The obstacles are kinda weak for the post part. they’re just for fun really. Most people dressed up and that was most of the fun. I’d definitely recommend wearing a costume. The crazier the better cause everyone will want pictures with you. It was a good time

There is a So Cal Strongmen competition in San Diego on October 2nd. Anyone competing in it? Wanna compete? Here is the link to it http://nastrongman.com/socal.pdf [/quote]

I plan to compete, only my second comp but it should be a good time. You plan on competing, and if so were you going to go to any of the training sessions? I was thinking of going to one to get some stone practice as I haven’t touched a stone in about 3 months and might be kinda rusty.

there is a Tender Greens location in Liberty Station Point Loma

and whenever possible, I do run it back (ie. one dine-in order, one to-go)

BUMP BUMP BUMP!

Ok I’ve got a question and I figured I would post it here in the SD thread (seemed fitting)

Heres the deal:

I play in a full contact adult flag football league down here in SD. Our new season starts up March 19th and we are looking for players. Our league has a C, B, A and Elite level leagues.

My team is in the A league so the level of play/competition is pretty good. My team is looking for new players all the time and I thought I’d see if any of my fellow T-Nationers would be interested.

like I said its pretty competitive so if you suck or are afraid of some contact… its probably not the league for you. Let me know if you are interested or if you have any friends who are good that would be interested in playing. All games are on Saturdays at Rob Field in OB.

For those of you who are interested let me know whats up!

I’d love to play greg. I aint too fast anymore but i can throw, catch, and definitely hit. I’m not sure what kind of talent you guys have out there, hopefully i can hang?

Oh and what do you mean by full contact flag football? Are there flags that you can pull as another option to tackling or is it 100% tackle?

^Same question as above… otherwise I am HELLZA interested. Been looking for a league like this!

whats up guys. Two replys already huh? Nice!

Ok so I’ll clarify a little more:

The league is 8 on 8. Everyone is an eligible receiver BUT you rush from right at the line of scrimmage so you need blockers/lineman.
The “full contact” portion is that their is live blocking. As long as your blocking with open hands (not forearms) you can lay people out. I play slot receiver and motion in for a crack back and have laid out quite a few guys who didnt have their head on a swivel

Another cool thing about the league is that on defense you can bump all the way down the field as long as the ball isnt in the air. So on an out and up or double move you can lay out the receiver as long as you use open hands and the ball isnt in the air. They let quite a bit go between the O/D lineman so it is a pretty physical league.

As far as our teams talent level… It really all depends to be honest. We have different players every season (two seasons a year) and we even have different players from week to week (some people work on saturdays and miss games which sucks)

I wont know how good (or bad) our team is this year until we have our first team meeting/get together. We want to start trying to get some scrimmages together here in the next 2-3 weeks. We actually have a team manager (yeah i know lol) He’s a really cool guy and he sets the starters/positions week to week. If you guys wanna come check it out and see what its all about then that would be awesome. I cant make any promises as to playing time or anything but we are always looking for guys who can come out and contribute to the team.

Also we are always looking for lineman. We need big guys (that can actually block) so if you guys know anyone let me know. I’ve played line a few times just because I’m strong and like to play physical… some times we’ll have big guys (fat) who are soft and dont take pride in their blocking. They just want to catch passes and shit lol.

Let me know if you guys have any more questions!

if all goes as planned, tomorrow will be my first day at World Gym in PB. I am slightly intimidated. I have heard it is one of the more hardcore gyms in san diego, we will see what happens.

I would definitely be interested in some good ol’ flag football the more contact the better. I played left tackle in high school, I was a real fat 300 back then hopefully with my new found leanishness i’ll tear up the field.

I love a good battle in the trenches so let me know when and i’ll stop by see whats up.

How big are we talking? im 230 right now but I played o-line throughout high school so i can definitely block. On defense i played line backer. I’m better fit for that but if you need a d-linemen i can do that instead. none of this really matters until we go out there and practice a bit though, so i guess just keep me posted.

Gregon gawddam it look at what you’ve done! I was hoping to dominate the field by being one of the few serious lifters and now you got all these other t-nationers coming out of the wood-work.

230?! Former d-linemen!!! Fuck that noise. I’m going to go play some racketball instead…

P.S. Give us the details of when, where, and how brah.

Seriously, the lifting environment there is better than any other gym that I have ever been to. The one time I went there, I set a deadlift PR simply because of the attitude everyone else had.

Plus it’s right next to an In-n-Out, so a post-workout 4x1 is doable.

hahaha lulz!

What’re you stats man? I know you’ve got a serious DL but I dont know much else… Give us a little profile of your stats and playing history/skills

Whenever I find out when we’re gonna get the team together I’ll let you guys know whats up.

oh hell yeah! We always need big guys who want/like to block. We’ve got this running back who is incredible. Hes a little guy but he is so crazy quick that he makes people look silly on every play. So needless to say (but i’ll say it anyway) we run the ball quite a bit. I love to get in there and mix it up (got a few pancake blocks last season) and try to spring Larry for some long runs.

Where did you go to highschool? What’re your stats now that you’re not pushing 3 bills anymore?

sick! yeah we have a few guys who are up there and there was talk of us picking up a guy who is 6’5" 280 and was a heavyweight wrestler at Iowa. That would be awesome! He would definitely be the biggest guy in the A league (there are quite a few former D1 guys who play in the elite division)

but at 230 you’d be one of the bigger/biggest guys on the team.

Its hard for me to say what the team will look like because, like I said before, the personnel changes all the time. I dont know who we’ll have or wont have so for now I cant really say.

I just recommend that anyone who is serious about it and is interested should come out and see what its all about. See if you fit in and if you want to play.
