Officer Fired Over Poor Fitness

In all fairness to the tax payers of the United States that cop should be fired…
Who the fuck is he going to “protect and serve” in that condition? You could literally walk up to him, boot him in the gut, and slowly jog away while laughing and he wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. Almost all the cops in my city are tall, big and lean, I wouldn’t dare try something like that on them. (Minus the small chick cops they hire for the purpose of equal rights).

Not to really add anything… but it was always nice to know you could run from the cops in H.S. with about a 5% chance of getting caught.

Majority of policeman in Croatia are very fat.Actually,I think they are the fatest profession here.
But,if someone decides to run from them or mess with them, there is a interventing police (elite unit) that they call. And no one wants them hunting them. These guys are physical beasts that are either training or in the action.

Did you guys read the whole article? This is what the next to last paragraph said:

“Parent’s firing, Polk said, stems from his poor performance during an Aug. 28 combat shooting exercise, which prompted the officers to report him to the command staff.”

He was fired because his fat ass couldn’t complete a simple field course on the shooting range. I imagine the other fat cops could complete that standard which was why Blimpy here was fired.

The problem with PT standards, and trust me I know because it is part of my job, is that the people who determine the standards aren’t into HIIT and stuff like that, they are into 10K’s.

The problem with enforcing PT standards is that 99.9% of police work is sedentary.

Did the guy balloon to 300 pounds overnight? No, it took him years to get there. His supervisors saw this happening and apparently did nothing. If they are going to start conducting exercises and enforcing PT standards after years of being lax, that’s great, but instead of just firing people off the bat, they should start by issuing warnings, putting officers on probation. Tell them they are going to have to take the test again in 6 months and they better get their ass in shape.

He may not have ballooned to 300 pounds overnight, but he was presumably doing his job to a satisfactory level until he got over that critical threshold of fatness that prevented him from being good enough anymore. Hence, the firing.

At which point any descent supervisor would have a private discussion with Mr. Parent about his weight, and let him know that he has to get it under control or disciplinary measures up to and including firing will have to be taken. And to be prepared in case it does come to firing, such warnings are always put in writing. So either his supervisor is incompetent, or used this guy’s weight as an excuse to get rid of him.

Here is another article about it. Quote from the article:

“Officers have testified that during the combat shoot exercise, Parent was able to successfully fire his weapon and complete the course, but was unable to move from a kneeling to a standing position without help. They said he had to pull himself up on parts of the combat course, and at one point, almost knocked down a piece of equipment.”

Well if the city wins this one I hope they can all the other cops that testified that they couldnt pass the test.

They didn’t fire him because he failed the combat exercises at the shooting range, he was merely reported because of his poor performance. An ensuing investigation found that he was out of shape and unable to adequately perform his duties as an officer of the law.

However, their reasons for firing Officer Parent seem to be adjacent from their point scoring system. Like Parent’s lawyer said, he has a passable amount of points. (What does that say about the points system?)

According to the article, the other officers haven’t or have barely made a “fair” rating. What exactly does a “fair” rating constitute on their scale?

It seems to me that they went after Parent because of who he is and totally did this without regards to their official point system. If they did, they’d have to fire their whole troop of officers.

I do, however, wish this guy the best of luck. And I sure do hope they fix their points system, for everyone’s sake.

The assertion that Blimpy was fired without his agency taking corrective action first is conjecture. It wasn’t said in the article and I really duubt that was the way it was handled as it would be incompetance by management. Most agencies of size over than a few cops send personel bosses to schools that teacth them how to fire someone.

I can say this; in Ohio an agency only has to allow a “fair transitional period” for someone to get in shape once a department initiates performcance standards.

There is a lot more going on with Blimpy than is being reported and the shooting range failure was most likely just the straw breaking the camel’s back. Having other fat asses having Blimpy’s back is hardly esculpatory.
