Occasionally Lactose Intolerant?

I have the odd problem of being lactose intolerant…sometimes. My diet is pretty much set day to day. Every monday I have virtually the same thing, every tuesday I have the same thing as every other tuesday, etc. Now sometimes my intestines react violently to products with lactose in them…other times not even a peep.

How can this be, either you have the enzyme to break down the lactase or you don’t…yet even though brand of food, other meals, and time of day all remain the same, some days I’m violently lactose intolerant…anyone else have this problem?

My diet is not so structured and unchanging to be as sure of it as you are but I have found in the past that my level of tolerance for lactose varies. I think it may have something to do with the level of stress one is under in general as to how violently one reacts to the lactose if one is not full out intolerant.

Happens to me occasionally, but only when I’ve been having too much milk a few days in a row, or a large amount in 1 sitting.

You may have developed a food allergy to something other than the milk. What else do you consume very frequently?

Whole wheat bread, bananas, apples, oatmeal. Those are about the only foods i eat every day. The rest of my diet rotates day to day. I eat a lot of top loin sirloin pork as well.

I get this randomly, but it mostly only happens in the morning. It never happens in the afternoon or at night, but always before 7 if I have milk. But that’s still rare. It might just be that your body is working differently due to certain factors such as stress (as Moon Knight pointed out).

Ah! OATMEAL! I had a feeling it may be.

I had been eating whole oats for over 2 years almost daily… and often 2-3 times a day. A few months ago I started feeling really shitty. This feeling went on for about 2 weeks when my wife said, “Maybe you’ve developed an allergy to oatmeal.” I thought she was full of crap, but next day I stopped the oatmeal. Well, she was right. I’ve felt like a new man ever since! But now I eat it once every 4 or 5 days without incident.
