Did we really need “experts” to weigh in (pun totally intended) on this kind of thing? It’s amazing that these are the kinds of stories that come out during heat waves.
Also, anyone else noticing the inordinate level of media attention to this weather right now? It’s August. We’ve had heat waves before. Why is it being covered like it is some unique meteorological phenomenon?
My wife is from coastal Northern Brazil. This weather we have now around here (bloody hot and humid) is the weather they have over there ALL, YEAR, ROUND. I’ve never heard them talk about heat waves in the news, and for some unknown reason, nobody dies of heatstroke. What a mystery!
I hate the scaremongering that goes on in the news.
“Don’t go out in the sun around noon.”
“Really? Even though it’s 40C and I’m a pink caucasian? Aw shucks, I was looking forward to my noon stroll, but I’ll stay indoors if the news lady with the push-up bra says so.”
I think the news should quit warning people. Let the idiots go out in the sun and die out.
I used to live in Saudi Arabia. The capital was in the middle of the desert with no humidity, and the temperature would get to 54 degrees Celsius.
In the coastal cities like Dammam, the temperature would get to 50 degrees Celsius PLUS Humidity. 5 minutes out of the house and you’re drenched in sweat. It was a friggin sauna. But we never had heat warnings or anything, cos that was the weather every summer afternoon…

It would be more like: “Stay tuned for Dr. Red Baller’s exclusive health report that ALL men need to hear.”
I’m with you on this topic of the heat wave. I said the exact same thing yesterday in the heat wave thread. It’s August and it’s in the high 90s - BFD. It does this every summer and each time it’s more and more of a crisis. Maybe the difference is that there are more and more fatty fat fats out there collapsing in the heat. Some of them are so fat that I really have to walk a long way around their comatose asses to get by, because I can’t step over them without tripping. Can’t they at least move to the side before collapsing?
I’m training in this heat in my garage and out on the driveway and street. It’s 95+ degrees every damn day. I’m sure my garage is at least another 10 degrees higher since it faces the sun (it feels like hell in there!).
If I can train in this, why can’t people sitting around and doing nothing handle it?
The only reason it is noteworthy at all is because of the blackouts, our insufficient infrastructure, and subpar power-grid. It’s not that damn hot. Major metropolitan cities such as New York should not be experiencing widespread blackouts because it hits 98 degrees. It’s a disgrace. That’s the news. Not that it’s a little bit hot.
To me it feels damn hot and I am in New York City right now. In way upstate New York where I am from it’s only 75 degrees. It’s very close to Canada up there. The thing with New York City is it’s so damn humid.
I don’t understand how people can live in places where it is damn near 100 degrees everyday and humid. I can’t stand heat I prefer a 45 degree day over a 95. I also have a disdain for sweating, but I am still training at home with no air conditioning in the room I train in, oh well.
Still I couldn’t imagine dealing with this year-round, a lot of places people live also have the shittiest weather, lol.
Yes, I see fat people all the time coming out from the subway, walking a few steps and waiting to get the energy to walk the next 8 steps, it’s quite pathetic especially with the layers of unneeded fat that cause them to sweat floods of water.

LOL, I agree the news is nothing but a rampant assault of depressive anxiety, I don’t watch the news, especially the NYC local Fox 5, one of the worst offenders of the scare tactics and half-assed segments.
